Simple Translation
periyAzhwAr had clearly mentioned about keeping the divine names of emperumAn, who has the auspicious qualities as his ornaments and who is deeply affectionate towards his followers, for their children. periyAzhwAr has the valour of winning over senses, as his ornament; he also has fame, which has been present for a long time. Those, who are capable of reciting the ten pAsurams, which he had mercifully composed in thamizh language, which is like an ornament and explains its meanings splendorously, will live forever, with affection, in SrI vaikuNtam, which is hugely beautiful.
vyAkhyAnam
sIraNi mAl – belonging to one, who has auspicious qualities as his ornaments and who is fully infatuated with his followers. The term sIraNi refers to the assembly of auspicious qualities. Since these qualities could not stay outside [of emperumAn], he is the repository for these qualities. This is similar to the SlOkam in SrI rAmAyaNam kishkindhA kANdam 15.2 “dhAthunAm iva SailEndhrO guNAnAmAkarO mahAn” (just as a great mountain is the repository for all minerals, SrI rAma is the repository for all auspicious qualities). mAl – an eminent entity; sarvESvaran [controller of all].
thirunAmamE idath thERRiya – explaining clearly through various reasons, to change the names kept after others [human beings] and to keep the divine names of nArAyaNan alone for their children.
vIraNi thol pugazj vittuchiththan viriththa – periyAzhwAr, who has the valour of winning over the sensory organs, as an ornament, and who has the fame, for a long time, of carrying out mangaLASAsanam for emperumAn, just like nithyasUris.
thiruvAimozhip piLLai says additionally here that periyAzhwAr has the divine name of vishNu chiththan and who, starting with thiruppallANdu until here, has mercifully explained to all the people in the world, the manner of experiencing emperumAn, through anyApadhESam [instructions through others] and through svApadhESam [through his own distinguished meanings]. Those who are capable of reciting these ten pAsurams [nine, where he says how the mother of the child will not enter narakam and one, where he says how they could attain SrI vaikuNtam], which are like a unique ornament, composed in thamizh language which gives out the meanings clearly, with the pathos of periyAzhwAr … thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here that it is easy to lift a mountain or to drain out an ocean with the help of a coconut shell, but it is difficult to know the opinion in the divine mind of AzhwAr. If one were to analyse whether these divine names, kept for the children, would remain with the child alone or would go down to emperumAn, who dwells as the antharyAmi, it would be clear that the distinguished name will not stop with the viSEshaNam (the outwardly seen attribute; in this case, the child], it would not stop with the viSEshyam [emperumAn, who is dwelling inside the jIvAthmA, who is together with the physical form], but would go to the level of the conduct and affection towards the AchAryan, through whom this knowledge has been obtained. Among all these, it is to be under the affection of AchAryan, which is the means and which is easy to attain too. It is this, which is defined by the term vallAr [those, who are capable of reciting]. The divine name comes about due to the one, who knows this. Even though these are divine names, they will not be considered as such if the knowledge stops at the level of child [that it is the child’s name].
OraNi … – those who are capable of reciting these ten pAsurams, being a unique ornament for those who learn it, being in thamizh language, which explains its meanings clearly and which could be recited by anyone,
pEraNi vaigundhaththu – in SrI vaikuNtam, which is hugely beautiful. In other words, it is a distinguished abode which is appropriate for carrying out servitude to emperumAn, without any break.
thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here that those, who realise these [as mentioned in the previous verse where the vyAkyAthA (commentator, thiruvAimozhip piLLai) has explained in a detailed manner] will live forever, carrying out mangaLASAsanam, in the abode, where nithyasUris consider the divine names of emperumAn, as ornaments for themselves. vIraNi refers to jithEndhriyathvam – in other words, just like winning over sensory organs which go after prAkrutha vishayam [worldly pursuits], it is also having the ability to win over the sensory organs which go after the beauty of aprAkrutha vishayam [emperumAn himself]. Those, who have kept the divine names of emperumAn for their children, should have the pride that they have done so due to AzhwAr’s merciful instructions. They should have the firm faith as mentioned in periyAzhwAr thirumozhi 5.4.4 “kodumai seyyum kURRamum en kOl Adik kuRugap peRA” (even yama, who punishes in cruel manner, will not come anywhere near places where emperumAn’s divine sceptre is ruling), that apart from getting over the fear of narakam, they will get to attain paramapadham, due to AzhwAr’s affection.
enRum pENi irupparE – they will get to live forever, with affection. Alternatively, pENi refers to protecting ISvaran, carrying out mangaLASAsanam for emperumAn and they will get to live forever.
We shall next consider the prAvEsam of this thirumozhi.
