Simple Translation
Oh, one who has the beauty of holding the beautifully radiant divine disc on your divine hand! When you entered the poisonous pond and engaged in a battle with the snake kALiyan, I was holding my breath. Why did you frighten me? You do not have even a little bit of fear. Oh, one who has the complexion of a purple-coloured flower! You were engaging in activities which were pleasant to kamsan’s mind.
vyAkhyAnam (Commentary)
anjudar … – your divine hand is beautiful, as it is, such that one has to ward off evil spirits. On top of that, you are holding the divine, beautifully radiant disc on your hand. Oh, one who is holding the divine disc which complements the complexion of your divine form!
thiruvAimozhip piLLai says additionally here that the entity [divine disc], which is meant for protection, is the cause of beauty too.
nI poygai pukku – You had entered the pond, not considering your tenderness, as if you had none to help you, while still having the divine disc, which reaches the place that you think of, on your divine hand.
thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here that krishNa entered the pond, which is mentioned as in thiruchchandha viruththam 86 “salam kalandha poygai vAy” (it appeared that water had been added to the poisonous pond)
nanju umizh nAgaththinOdu piNangavum nAn uyir vAzhndhirundhEn – the poisonous snake, kALiyan, was spitting poison in a furious state. When you entered the pond, he tried to tie you down with his form. You broke free from his attempts, stood atop his spread-out heads, took hold of his tail and danced on him such that he became weak and spat out blood from his mouth. Even when you were engaging in a battle with him like this, I was still alive.
thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here that one had to guess that water was present in the pond while outwardly it appeared as if it had only poisonous liquid.
en seyya ennai vayiRu maRukkinAy – Why did you frighten me like this?
thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here that the term maRukkudhal refers to getting frightened on account of an event which took place in the past, even as yaSOdhAp pirAtti was keeping krishNa on her lap and thinking repeatedly of his entering the poisonous pond and fighting with kALiyan.
Edhum Or achcham illai – if you indulge in a daring act like this, it could (1) lead to harm for you, (2) make me feel frightened, (3) make it unbearable for the world. You did not have even a little bit of fear for any of these.
thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here that krishNa did not fear about any harm to himself, about any harm to others, about the world being unable to bear the result of his daring act, and about the fright that it would cause yaSOdhAp pirAtti. However, this daring act would have caused happiness to kamsan et al.
kanjan manaththukku ugappanavE seydhAy – you indulged in an action which would have made kamsan feel happy since he is waiting to see “When will a calamity befall you?”
kAyAmbU vaNNam koNdAy – Oh, one who has the complexion of a purple-coloured lily flower! yaSOdhAp pirAtti prays to krishNa, feeling happy that she is alive seeing that no shortcoming came to krishNa’s beautiful divine form.
thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here that yaSOdhAp pirAtti tells krishNa “Oh, one who stole the fresh colour from the purple-coloured lily flower!” She further says that looking at the beauty of his divine form [coming from the colour of the flower] and the tenderness of his divine form [coming from the soft nature of that flower], due to her fortune, she was able to remain alive.
We shall next consider the 7th pAsuram of this thirumozhi.
