Simple Translation

You had made herd-girls, who have eyes decorated with black pigment and who are simple, to be infatuated with you. You had gone behind them, held on to their saris which were full of folds and carried out countless mischiefs, being alone. Oh, one who is mischievous! I have heard with my ears, wicked details regarding you from others, which are appropriate to write as a book. Oh, one who is the lord of mischiefs! I know today that you are the difficult-to-attain lord. I am afraid to give you [my bosom] milk.

vyAkhyAnam (Commentary)

maiyAr … – women who have their eyes decorated with black pigment, who have simplicity which is primary among the qualities of AthmA and who have taken birth in the herd-clan

maiyanmai seydhu – making them infatuated such that they are friendly with you [reference to krishNa] through your beauty and that they are not under the control of [their] mothers et al.

avar pin pOy – going behind them

thiruvAimozhip piLLai, in his svApadhESam, says that gazing at the beauty of their dress and the beauty of their gait, krishNa went behind the herd-girls, holding on to their pleats. pUndhugil – soft dress.

koyyAr pUndhugil paRRi – catching hold of their dresses which have plenty of pleats. Through this, it is stated that krishNa went behind the girls, holding on to the pleats of their saris.

thani ninRu kuRRam pala pala seydhAy – standing in secluded places, you indulged in activities in countless numbers, which cannot be spoken of. When krishNa asked yaSOdhAp pirAtti “What is this? I did not do any mischief. Did you see?” she says …

poyyA … – Oh, one who indulges in mischiefs! I have heard from others about all the wicked details indulged in by you, which would be enough to write as a book.  When krishNa counters this, saying “Is whatever that they say and whatever that you hear the truth and what I say, lies?” she says …

thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here that krishNa retorts saying “I have not committed any mischief”. yaSOdhAp pirAtti calls him “poyyA” [one who tells lies]. krishNa says “Is what you say as liar, the truth?” she says “Is it only I who am saying this? I have heard from others such a lot about you that they cannot be contained even in a book” to which he says “Is it only what you say and what the others say which are to be taken as truth? Is what I say alone, false?” she says …

aiya – She celebrates him saying “What a clarity of thoughts you have!” Alternatively, this could also mean that she says that he is the lord of mischiefs.

unnai aRindhu koNdEn – I have learnt that you are one, having activities which are beyond this world.

unakku … – Hence, I will be afraid to give you milk.
