Simple Translation

Oh, one who has auspicious qualities which are celebrated by everyone, come! Oh, one who lifted the gOvardhana hills as an umbrella! Oh, one who danced with pots! Oh, one who is expounded by vEdhams! Oh, one who is apt to be called as mine, standing on the hills of thirumalai! Oh, one who has amazing powers! You should come here. Do not say that you would not come. I, your mother, cannot hear and tolerate words of people in the neighbourhood, who speak about your faults. Hence, come here.

vyAkhyAnam (Commentary)

pOdhar kaNdAy ingE– Do not carry out mischiefs, standing there. Come here. The word pOdharu has got shortned as pOdhar here.

thiruvAimozhip piLLai, in his svApadhESam, says that leaving that place [where people complain about you] and coming here is the apt activity for you. While I repeatedly call out to you to come, instead of repeatedly negating it saying that you would not come, you should come here. thiruvAimozhip piLLai says that the word pOgal has got transformed to pOdhar. The word kaNdAy is a word-filler used and does not have any meaning. It could also be construed as “You see, they are talking despicably about you”, in which case it has a meaning on its own.

pOdhar kaNdAy – since krishNa did not come when yaSOdhAp pirAtti called out to him the first time, she calls out to him a second time. Despite this, since he did not come …

pOdharEn ennnAdhE pOdhar kaNdAy – Do not say “I will not come”. She tells him to come and see. When he asks her “For what purpose are you calling me?” she says …

EdhEnum solli asalagaththAr EdhEnum pEsa nAn kEtka mAttEn – people in the neighbourhood would discuss amongst themselves about your faults, which could not even be mentioned through words, and then would come to me and tell me, which I cannot hear or speak about and which I cannot tolerate to hear.

thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here that those people, apart from discussing amongst themselves, come to me and tell me “He is a thief”, words which are not proper for this clan and which I cannot tolerate,

kOdhu kulam udaiya kuttanE! O O – “You are one, celebrated by everyone with your qualities. How could you be spoken of like this by everyone?” yaSOdhAp pirAtti feels saddened due to this. Due to that sorrow, she calls out “O O” [Alas!).

thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here – “Oh, one who came as the son for the faultless clan!” The term O refers to excessive sorrow, felt by yaSOdhAp pirAtti.

kunRu eduththAy – Oh, one who protected the cows and the herd-people by lifting the gOvardhana hills!

kudamAdu kUththA – Oh, one who danced with pots as an outlet for the pride of having opulence, due to cows! The term kudamAdu kUththan refers to kudam eduththu Adina kUththai udaiyavan – one who performed dance by carrying the pots and dancing with them. Through these two features [lifting the gOvardhana hill and dancing with pots], don’t you think that you are the protector for this clan and the opulence which came as a result of being born in this clan is your wealth? You should have your activities in line with this.

thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here that when herd-people get lot of wealth, they will engage in dancing with pots, just as brAhmaNas will perform hOmams and yagyams [vEdhic rituals] when they get excess of wealth.

vEdhap poruLE – Just as it has been mentioned in bhagavath gIthA 15-15vEdhaiScha sarvair ahamEva vEdhya:” (only I am known through the vEdhams), oh, one who is expounded by all the vEdhams!

en vEngadavA – Apart from knowing through vEdham, oh, one who had stood in thirumalai hills such that you could be seen through the eyes, both by nithyasUris and by samsAris, to be called as “He is mine”!

thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here that through the term viththaganE AzhwAr asserts that emperumAn is the cause for all the worlds [the term viththagan is split into viththu and agan, in which viththu refers to seed, root cause for a tree] and that he has the capability to control all the worlds [when the word is considered as viththagan, instead of being split].

viththaganE – Oh, one who is an amazing entity, since you are standing like this [to be seen by both]!

ingE pOdharAyE – Leaving the place where people, who speak ill of your qualities live, come here where I speak only about your good qualities.

We shall next consider the 7th pAsuram of this thirumozhi.
