periya thirumozhi >> Eighth centum

In the previous padhigam, as emperumAn showed all his aspects to thirumangai AzhwAr, AzhwAr enjoyed those in his mind and desired enjoy bhagavAn externally. But since he did not get that real life experience, he acquired the mood of a pirAtti (leading lady). Seeing the state of that pirAtti, her thiruththAyAr (divine mother), looks at her daughter’s words, her daughter’s detachment towards her, her love towards him whom she loves; she tells those who came to enquire about her daughter “How great are his qualities which destroy the other person (my daughter) who has separated from him, matching his greatness? My daughter is constantly speaking about his saundharyam (beauty) etc, Seelam (simplicity) etc and masculinity. She is not listening to my good words also. She is not caring for her femininity [being dependant, having to wait for his arrival]. She is not caring for his true nature [of being the lord, who will protect]. Instead of focussing on bhagavAn in paramapadham or in his vibhava (incarnations) forms, she visualises Saurip perumAL who is mercifully present in thirukkaNNapuram having all the greatness of all the other states like parathvam, vibhavam etc, and it appears that she is captivated by his simplicity there”. This decad is in such manner.

After studying some principles under some AchAryas, SvEthakEthu acquired a little bit of knowledge to know that not only there are differences between different bodies, even among jIvAthmAs, there are differences. Just on learning this, he came to his father as if he is complete and omniscient, thinking “How amazing bhagavAn’s variegated creation is?” Seeing the radiance in his form, his father thinks “There is still a lot to be known by him. But he is standing as if he knows everything. We should inform him about what is to be known”. He asks his son, as in chAndhOgya upanishath 16-1-3 “sthabhdhOsi” (You are standing shocked), “You are standing as if you are omniscient and complete”. “tham AdhESam aprAkshya: paripUrNa iva vakshyasE” (Have you received instructions about the supreme being?) “Did you hear that AdhESa?” AdhESa: – praSAsanam (Control). He asks – As said in manu smruthi 12-122 “praSAsithAram sarvEshAm aNIyAmsamaNIyasAm l rukmAbham svapnadhIgamyam vidhyAththu purusham param ||” (It should be known that parama purushan (supreme entity) controls all entities, that he has radiance like melted gold and that he is apt to be known through knowledge similar to the (amazing) intelligence gathered in dreams), when a person knows one particular thing, that person would know everything. So did you know sarvESvaran who can control every entity other than him, as praSAsithA? SvEtha kEthu responds asking “kOnvAdhESa:” (Which matter?). He has heard some aspects of pUrva bhAgam (karma kANdam) in vEdham and some nyAyams (rules) and is not having vEdhAntha gyAnam (knowledge of vEdhAntham). His father says – not stopping with the naiyAyika understanding of sarvESvaran being the nimiththa kAraNam (efficient cause) and sahakAri kAraNam (instrumental cause), just as a potter has stick, wheel etc as nimiththa and sahakAri kAraNam, you should know that sarvESvaran is also the upAdhAna kAraNam (material cause). As said in thaithhirIya upanishath “bahusyAm” (Let me become many), you should know that brahmam is both kAraNam (cause) and kAryam (effect), and that chith (sentient beings) and achith (insentient entities) are both attributes of brahmam. You should know the approach taken by vEdhAntham. There, the father asked the son to inform what is unknown for his son; here, the mother is looking at the form and speech and realises “My daughter has clearly understood sarvESvaran who is greater than all” and is revealing to others that she knows this.

In rAjEndhra chOzhan (a village), the son of a brAhmaNa became inspired by budhdhist people, embraced that philosophy, cut off his pUNUl (yagyOpavItham) and kudumi (SikhA); as kUraththAzhwAn walked into that village, he again adorned the SikhA and yagyOpavItham; the father asked him “Did you meet kUraththAzhwAn?” When others asked him “How did you know about it?”, he said “In the presence of AzhwAn, even those who are covered by thamas (ignorance) will become sAthvika (noble)” [Implying that those who see thirukkaNNapuram bhagavAn will change favourable towards him]
