pravESam
With emperumAn’s incarnation in the form of a human being, he had to undergo various activities in line with this species. Hence, yaSOdhAp pirAtti engaged him in the activity of piercing his ears and making the holes bigger by inserting cotton thread and ear-rings. Once the ear holes are made bigger, they may attract dirt etc. Hence, she decided that she will give him a bath. She prepared the materials required for giving him the bath. When she called him for taking bath, krishNa did not agree to it. She, however, compelled him, giving him the reasons for why he should have a bath. She showed him the materials which she had kept ready for him to wear and decorate himself with, after the bath. To make him agree, she had also prepared and kept ready, the eatables which he likes, such as appam, vadai, fruits etc. She told him about her affection for him as well as her thought “Though I very much like to see your golden divine form which has become dirtied due to your playing in dirt etc, those who see you will blame me saying ‘Will a lady bring up her son like this?’ Not only that, if nappinnaip pirAtti, who is very dear to you, sees you like this, she will make fun of you”. By saying all these, she somehow made him agree for a bath. periyAzhwAr, desiring to experience the same joy which yaSOdhAp pirAtti had enjoyed, took her pathos, assumed her status [of being a mother, affectionate towards her son], used the words which she had used during her time [which was in dhvAparayugam, in SrI gOkuam], as if he had been present during her time [though he was living in kali kalam and in SrI villibuththUr], enjoying the flavour of making krishNa to take a bath and becomes blissful, in this thirumozhi [divine verses].
thiruvAimozhip piLLai, in his svApadhESam says the following: In the earlier thirumozhis, krishNa had consumed ghee which had been kept in pots, along with concentrated milk, fragrant butter and curd. He had gone about playing in dirt such that his divine form was full of dirt. He had taken milk from one bosom of yaSOdhAp pirAtti, while twirling the other bosom with his hand. He had consumed milk, irrespective of whether it was offered by his mother or a fiend [pUthanA], without showing any distinction. His ears, since they had got pierced, had collected dirt. He had engaged in tiresome activities such as lifting a mountain [gOvardhana], kicking a wheel [in which a monster, Sakatan, had pervaded] etc. yaSOdhAp pirAtti, who had seen all these, had also seen him adorning himself with crocodile ear-rings which were beautiful. Not being satisfied with these, she wanted to lower his ears by increasing the size of the holes in the ears and applying heavy ornaments. This became her full-time work. However, despite all these, the dirt would not change. AzhwAr, now gets started on giving him a bath by making him, who had torn the shiny chest of the monster hiraNya kashyap [as narasimha], to remain patient.
