Simple translation
bhagavAn, who is the supreme lord for all, created the worlds which are surrounded by resounding oceans. He launched the SrI sudharSana, which is strong, during bANAsura yudhdham, to make rudhran, who has bull as the vehicle, runaway from the battlefield, being defeated. He destroyed lankA which is in the southern direction and is filled with enemies. I, who am a servitor, have surrendered unto the one who has thiruvazhundhUr as his abode, became uplifted.
Highlights from vyAkyAnam (Commentary)
udaiyAnai … – Being the SEshi (lord) for all the chEthanas other than him.
oli nIr ulagangaL padaiththAnai … – While everything lay destroyed, the causal lord who created the earth which is surrounded by ocean.
vidaiyAn … – While those [dhEvathAs like rudhran] who were placed as protectors for the world, join forces with the asuras with the intent to harm, bhagavAn protects them [dhEvathAs] even at that stage. What did he do to make rudhran run away? He launched the thiruvAzhi (sudharSana chakram).
vidaiyAn Oda – rudhra was bewildered, as said in harivamsam 125-8 “pAravaSyam samAyAtha: Suli jrumbhitha thEjasA l pAnchajanyasya ghOshENa SArngavishpUrjithEna cha ll” (Sivan, who is wielding a trident, swooned and fell unconscious, after hearing the trumpeting sound of emperumAn’s conch, SrI pAnchajanyam, and the sound of emperumAn’s bow, SrI SArngam); while he acquired clarity, he said as in SrI vishNu purANam 5-33-41? “krishNa krishNa mahAbAhO jAnE thvAm purushOththamam l parESam paramAthmAnam anAdhinidhanam param ll” (Oh krishNa, with huge hands! I know that you alone are the best among all souls, the head of celestial entities, you are the supreme being, the one without a beginning and an end and superior to all).
adaiyAr … – One who would destroy those who are fully and steadily unfavourable towards him [and his devotees].
aNiyazhundhUr udaiyAnai – Being the owner of thiruvazhundhUr is greater than being the owner of nithya vibhUthi (paramapadham). Since AzhwAr has indicated that he is the lord of ubhaya vibhUthi (SrIvaikuNtam and samsAram) and subsequently/separately identified that he is the owner of the beautiful thiruvazhundhUr, this wealth is superior to the wealth identified first.
adiyEn … – I who have no other refuge have attained you. I have changed from the state indicated in thaiththirIya upanishath “asannEva” (those who are not knowledgeable about brahmam are as good as achith) to being uplifted and accomplished.
