Simple translation
Oh you who are known as “my heart”! You saw the sorrow of those followers of kshapaNa philosophy, who established their philosophy through useless debate, due to pushing handful of rice mixed with the best curd. After seeing that, you are engaged in serving sarvESvaran who is having thirulamA where beetles sing tunes such as maruL, as his abode and along with residing there, he is the antharAthmA for sun who is roaming in the sky!
Highlights from vyAkyAnam (Commentary)
tharukkinAl samaN seydhu – Establishing their philosophy by mere debates. As said in manu smrithi 12.106 “vEdha SAsthra virOdhinA yastharkENAnusandhaththE sadharmam vEdhanEthara:” (One who is engaged in debates which are not contrary to what is seen by sages in vEdham and the smruthis which are based on that vEdham, is the one who knows dharmam. Others don’t know dharmam), instead of establishing the principles using debates which are aligned with pramANam (scriptures), establishing avaidhika (contrary to vEdham) principles using useless debate which are hard.
sORu … – They survive with boiled (special type of) rice; they would make a paste of curd and rice, make a handful and push it inside the throat to pop out their eyes, as per their vratha (penance); they go through a particular sorrow at that time – seeing that.
maruLgaL … – Having thirumalA as his abode where beetles sing the tunes of maruL, indhaLam and so on.
arukkan mEvi niRpARku – Being the antharyAmi of sun who is approached by vaidhikas.
adimaith thozhil pUNdAyE – You got to see him, serve him and enjoy him with your eyes instead of just needing to meditate upon him as the antharyAmi of sun.
In the next article we will enjoy the next pAsuram.
