periyAzhwAr thirumozhi >> Second Centum
pravESam (Introduction)
In the earlier thirumozhis [divine verses], yaSOdhAp pirAtti had decorated krishNa’s locks with flowers, then she had carried out kAppu [protecting against evil eyes], made him to be under her control and put him to sleep near her. She then got up from her sleep and stated looking after her household chores. krishNa too got up from his sleep, went to the houses of those who were living in that place, swallowing butter, rolling the empty containers and breaking them; he tilted the containers in which boiled milk had been kept and drank the milk. He ate all the sweets and other eatables which they had made in their respective house, without leaving anything behind. He then called little girls, removed their bangles, gave them to fruit sellers and took blue berries from them, in exchange. Since he was indulging in all these mischiefs, the people from each of those houses [where he had carried out these mischiefs] came separately to yaSOdhAp pirAtti, complained to her, saying “Call your son to your house”. She too, listening to their complaints, called him out to come to her, by praising him. She told him “I am unable to tolerate the complaints of these people towards you. Come here”. periyAzhwAr recalls the many ways in which she called him, taking over her pathos in each of those instances [when she called him], enjoys the activities of krishNa on those occasions and becomes joyous, in this thirumozhi.
thiruvAimozhip piLLai, in his svApadhESam, says that while yaSOdhAp pirAtti went to look after her household chores after putting krishNa to sleep, matured ladies in that place came and complained to her regarding the mischievous activities in which he had indulged in, during the night. They also complained that “Even during daytime, he indulges in such mischievous activities, enjoying in the playfulness of such activities”. She called out to him, telling him “Do not indulge in such mischiefs”, many times over. Recalling her words, AzhwAr tells his activities, bringing the decad to its end with the servitude of a follower.
