Oh lord! Oh one who is present in thirukkuRungudi! Oh enjoyable one who is mercifully present in thirunaRaiyUr! Oh one who is residing in the dhivyadhESam named thiruviNNagar which is surrounded by overflowing water! I became weak being hit with the arrow of the abundantly fleshy eyes on the moon like face of the distinguished (beautiful) women who are having eyes like those of a deer. Due to this, I came running and surrendered unto you.
Highlights from vyAkyAnam (Commentary)
mAn .. – I escaped from that which is very difficult to escape from, and surrendered unto your divine feet. Hence you should mercifully shower your grace upon me.
mAnEy nOkku nallAr – The beautiful, abundantly fleshy eyes, which are seen in the face of women, who are having eyes which are like those of deer, having goodness for other aspects of beauty, and which are attractive and inviting, are like arrows. Being tormented by those eyes, I came running and surrendered unto your divine feet. These women will firmly captivate the men with their eyes, by glancing at them as if they expect nothing, and once the men get caught, the women will take themselves away and torment the men; I escaped that and surrendered unto your divine feet.
kOnE – When I escaped such torment and took refuge at your divine feet, they look like apt matrer just like resting on a mother’s lap.
kuRungudiyuL kuzhagA – While emperumAn was in the divine assembly in paramapadham, he descended and became present in thirukkuRungudi to unite with AzhwAr and accept him.
thirunaRaiyUrth thEnE – It became pleasant to AzhwAr when he thought about emperumAn being present in thirunaRaiyUr just as mother and father will remain together to eliminate the sorrow of a child. bhattar would mercifully say “For the thirunaRaiyUr flood (of 100 pAsurams), this is an indication”.
varu punal … – As you have arrived and are present in thiruviNNagar which is having abundance of water which will eliminate all the ennui on just seeing it, I have escaped the eyes of such women and surrendered unto your divine feet.
