Oh one who is present in the dhivyadhESam named thiruviNNagar! I will not abandon the bliss caused by experiencing you. Not abandoning (that bliss) means I will not forget your physical beauty, at all times. Due to not forgetting you, I will not think about taking birth in samsAra. Elimination of such birth is acquired since I am on your side always.

Highlights from vyAkyAnam (Commentary)

thuRappEn allEn inbam – While I will abandon worldly pleasures, I won’t abandon the primary bliss of being your servitor.

When bhagavAn asked “If you can abandon pleasures acquired from Sabdham etc what is the reason for not abandoning the pleasure in my matters?” AzhwAr responds

thuRavAdhu … – Not abandoning the pleasure means not forgetting your divine form. Though I forgot you in the past as said in periya thirumozhi 6.2.2maRandhEn unnai munnam” (I did not think about you), in the future, I will ensure that I won’t forget you.

What is derived from this? I did not think about you in the past; because of that I took births and suffered; now, if I constantly think about you without forgetting, will it not lead to stopping the birth for me?

enRum … – By not forgetting, I got to eliminate the thought of taking birth in samsAram.

When bhagavAn asked “Good! Are you thinking that you won’t be born again since you have continuous remembrance about me?” AzhwAr responds

piRavAmai … – I got to the point of not having to take birth again only by being subservient to your mercy and accepting “You are the controller” and not because of my efforts.

thiruviNNagarAnE – It is because of your divine presence here that I became the target of your mercy.

[Simple explanation in sequence of the words in the pAsuram]

thuRappEn allEn inbam – I won’t abandon the joy.

thuRavAdhu nin uruvam maRappEn allEn – Not abandoning the joy – not forgetting your divine form.

enRum maRavAdhu yAnulagil piRappEnAga eNNEn – Not taking birth is acquired by not forgetting you.

nin thiRaththEn AdhanmaiyAl – piRavAmaip peRRadhu – thiruviNNagarAnE – I became yours due to your divine presence in thiruviNNagar.
