Simple translation
Oh one who is mercifully residing in thiruveLLaRai where the wind is blowing in every street and in all directions, embracing the mAdhavi trees which grow tall in the sky while they blossom and spreading the fragrance, and is surrounded by gardens! Oh you who incarnated as hayagrIva and brought vEdhams and SAsthrams into existence, by showing mercy to brahmA who is present on the lotus flower in your divine navel and who lost the faultless, four vEdhams! Kindly grant your mercy for me.
Highlights from vyAkyAnam (Commentary)
vasai … – Granting four vEdhams which don’t have four faults such as vipralamba (deceit) etc. As said in thaiththirIya upanishath “dhAthA yathA pUrvam akalpayath” (The lord created everything as existed previously), emperumAn said “You create them as they existed” and he lost the vEdhams in the hands of asuras. He then stood with tears in his eyes as said in “vEdhA mE paramam chakshur vEdha mE paramam dhanam” (vEdhams are my best eyes and best wealth) and cried out. emperumAn granted his mercy upon such brahmA.
ammalar ayaRku aruLi – He prayed to emperumAn standing in his stature.
mun pari mugamAy – emperumAn considered “brahmA will withdraw from learning if he had to serve an AchArya and learn from him” and hence he remained as hayagrIva and instructed him. This is similar to how he instructed arjuna being his charioteer.
isai koL … – Oh one who created vEdham which has nice music, ithihAsams etc! You should kindly grant your mercy upon me. nUl indicates SAsthram. Alternatively – when nUl indicates the other ithihAsams, purANams etc, as said in SrIvishNu purANam 1.22.38 “thath sarvam vaiharEsthanu:” (Everything is hari’s body) – since he is authoring these through rishis et al, who are his body, it can still mean bhagavAn only.
uyar koL mAdhavi … – At the apt times in mAdhavi trees which have grown to cover the whole sky.
vIdhiyin vAy – On the streets.
ulAviya mArudham – The wandering breeze is spreading the fragrance in all directions and is surrounded by gardens.
