As emperumAn eliminates the crocodile, the enemy of SrI gajEndhrAzhwAn, pirAtti embraces him as she did during karavadha (the vanquishing of kara); such emperumAn mercifully stood in thirumaNimAdak kOyil; oh heart! You go and enjoy him there,

Simple translation

At the time when gajEndhrAzhwAn who was like a huge mountain, engaged in the act of killing and having a wounded head due to being poked by the mahout, was suffering, to have him freed, emperumAn caused sorrow to the crocodile (which grabbed its foot) which is cruel and very strong; thirumaNimAdak kOyil in thirunAngUr is the abode of such lord of all, who enjoys with great affection, the joy of union with periya pirAttiyAr who is residing in lotus flower which is having a lot of honey and leaves; oh my heart! Surrender unto this dhivyadhESam where kAvEri river is pushing with the tides and yielding the tusks of elephants destroyed by the manly lions, agaru trees, beautiful pearls with fly-whisk and all other materials from the mountain.

Highlights from vyAkyAnam (Commentary)

kolaip puN thalaik kunRam onRu – being engaged in the act of killing and having a raw wounded head, there is an elephant which is like mountain – SrI gajEndhrAzhwAn. Wounded because of the poking by the mahout using the hook; or wounded by the fight with other elephants since it is a wild elephant; or it is said by AzhwAr since this is a natural quality of elephants (to have wounded head).

uyya – To be freed from its sorrows when it was inflicted with pain.

kodu mA mudhalaikku idar seydhu – Causing sorrow for the crocodile which is cruel and very strong.

kongAr … – Just as a father who would eliminate the sorrow of the children and seek solace from the mother.

kongu Ar … – kongu – honey or fragrance. Being filled with honey.

ilaip puNdarIgaththu – Having the lotus flower which has rejuvenating leaf, as abode.

avaL inbam … – The abode of sarvESvara who enjoyed the joy of periya pirAttiyAr’s embrace, with his love.

ALari … – The manly lions will catch the elephants and kill them; alaikkai – killing. At that time, the flooded river will arrive and pluck the tusks of the elephants and carry them.

agilum aNi muththum – Carrying the pearls which fell from the heads of the elephants and the whitish fly-whisks.

ponni … – kAvEri will bring the enlisted and non-enlisted items from the mountain and will hand them over with its tides, just as those who generate wealth; such thirunAngUr.
