Simple translation
Being a matchless strong narasimha having huge mouth and sword like teeth which match his form, sarvESvaran easily tore the demoniac hiraNya’s body which had grown to match his [emperumAn’s] form and threw it; the divine abode of such sarvESvaran is singavEL kunRam where tired animals, small broken hills, and further the bamboo which has fire within and remains as half burnt are only present and nothing else is present.
Highlights from vyAkyAnam (Commentary)
- Eyndha … – Having huge mouth [and teeth] matching his great divine form; sword like teeth; alternatively – radiant teeth.
- Or kOLariyAy – Strong, matchless narasimha. avuNan’s – the demoniac one’s; vAyndha Agam – the body which had grown matching narasimha’s form; the divine abode of sarvESvaran who tore such body with his sharp divine nail.
- Oyndha mAvum – Due to roaming around the barren lands, the animals which live in that region will also be tired.
- udaindha kunRum – The small hills which are broken due to the heat, and will break further on coming in contact with anything. Further, the bamboo which has fire inside and is half-burnt due to that. singavEL kunRam has nothing other than these. The bamboos which are burnt due to the fire within. [Still] For AzhwAr, this abode appears similar to SrIrangam which is described in thirumAlai 14 “vaNdinamuralum sOlai” (gardens where the swarm of bees keep humming). It is said in thiruvAimozhi 5.10.2 “adhu idhu udhu ennal Avana valla” (without distinguishing between that activity, this activity or the other activity, everything related to you is desirable). Desiring something implies, what is seen as fault in that by others, will be seen as desirable in the same thing by us.
