avathArikai (Introduction)
thiruvAimozhip piLLai, in his svApadhESam, says that in the previous pAsuram, AzhwAr had told krishNa not to stay with those who transpose their faults as krishNa’s faults and to come to him. Since he did not come, AzhwAr calls him with an urge, in this pAsuram.

Simple Translation
thiruveLLaRai has tall mansions, embellished with nine gemstones, and compound walls, such that cloud will glide over them. Oh, one who is mercifully standing there and showering your mercy! Even as you were born, we have heard of a narrative that “kamsan, with lot of anger on you, had sent pUthanA, with a dark complexion and reddish locks, in order to kill you deceitfully”. Hence, I am fearful when you stand there. Oh, one who has beauty which needs to be protected! You should come such that I could carry out kAppu for you.
vyAkhyAnam (Commentary)
kanjan … – From the day that an aSarIri [voice, without a form behind it] was heard [saying that the eighth son of dhEvakip pirAtti and vasudhEvar would kill him], kamsan was not only furious, he developed a total enmity in his mind; due to excessive doubt, he killed the first six children by smashing their heads against a stone, left the seventh when he was told that the foetus had collapsed and was awaiting the birth of the eighth, wondering as to “When will it be born?” in order to harm the child. Even as he was waiting, with none other than your [krishNa’s] parents knowing, you were born in darkness. Through the words of dhurgai [the girl child born to yaSOdhAp pirAtti, but changed places with krishNa on the night that he was born] and other sources, kamsan came to know that you had left that place [mathurA] and shifted to thiruvAyppAdi [SrI gOkulam] in that darkness itself. He became very furious in your matter. The word kaRuppu has got shortened here as kaRu. kaRuppu – fury.
thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here that krishNa found a way to be alive even after seeing six of his brothers getting killed by kamsan and had entered thiruvAyppAdi with protection [through vasudhEvar and AdhiSEshan] and his intelligence. kamsan heard that krishNa was growing up well there. kamsan thought that he could carry out the task of killing krishNa through pUthanA. Hence, it is said that kamsan was furious with krishNa.
karu niRam … – pUthaNA, the fiend sent by kamsan to kill you, had a form as if darkness had taken a shape. Her locks looked like flames from red hot fire. There is a narrative to the effect that kamsan told her “Do not confront krishNa directly with this form; you will not be able to destroy him; go with a deceitful form and complete your task”. It is learnt that SrI nandhagOpar [krishNa’s father] had heard this from vasudhEvar when he had gone to SrI mathurA. It is also learnt that this news had come through hearsay from SrI mathurA.
thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here that it appeared that darkness had come together and taken a form, called as pUthanA. Her locks appeared as if fire had decided to emit cruel flames. It is heard that kamsan had told her “If you go like this, you would not be able to kill him. Go with a deceptive form and carry out the task”. This narrative came from vasudhEvar to SrI nandhagOpar; it could have come through hearsay from mathurA; or else, this could have been directly told by emperumAn to AzhwAr when AzhwAr saw him.
manju … – Oh, one who stood firmly in thiruveLLaRai, where the mansions, studded completely with gemstones, reach the sky such that clouds could glide over them and which has fortified walls for protection!
thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here that just as we climb the hills of thirumalai with a huge effort, clouds would climb atop the mansions in thiruveLLaRai, which were studded with gemstones, just as it has been mentioned in periya thirumozhi 4.10.8 “padiyidai mAdaththu adiyidaith thUNil padhiththa pal maNigaLin oLiyAl” (from the lustre of gems which have been embellished in the pillars erected inside mansions on the earth). The mansions were that tall. These were protected by the fortified walls in thiruveLLaRai. Oh, one who is standing firmly in such thiruveLLaRai!
anjuvan nI angu niRka – Having heard that “pUthanA came in search of you to harm you was not due to her own accord but due to kamsan’s imploring her”, I was afraid as to “Who else he would send further and what else he would do”. Hence, I was afraid that you were standing in the place which is full of danger.
thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here that AzhwAr is afraid when krishNa stands amidst those who see faults in the auspicious qualities of emperumAn, in the same way when he would be afraid of pUthanA [approaching krishNa].
azhaganE kAppida vArAy – Oh, one who has beauty beyond this world! Do not stand there. You should come such that I could carry out kAppu for your beauty.
thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here that krishNa’s beauty was similar to the one as mentioned in SrI rAmAyaNam AraNya kANdam 3.29 “pumsAm dhrishti chiththa apahAriNam” (SrI rAma stole the eyes and minds of people with his beauty) and as mentioned in SrI bhAgavatham 10.32.2 “sAkshAn manmatha manmatha:” (kishNa’s beauty was such that he would bewilder the mind of manmathan who would bewilder the minds of all). Even after seeing such beauty, there are people who would find fault with him. Hence, AzhwAr tells krishNa to come so that he could perform kAppu as a remedy for the evil eyes of such people. Through the term manju, it is said that those who have noble thoughts in their minds and corresponding activities, come to thiruveLLaRai, since this noble place is that famous. Through the term maNi, the distinguished knowledge about emperumAn’s svarUpa rUpa guNa vibhUthi (basic nature, divine form, auspicious qualities and wealth respectively) which is splendorous, is shown. It also shows the efforts taken to protect such a distinguished entity.
We shall next consider the 7th pAsuram of this thirumozhi.
