pravESam (Introduction)
In the earlier thirumozhi (divine verses), yaSOdhAp pirAtti had desired to enjoy the flavour of krishNa’s activity, in line with his behaviour of being a child, to come running towards her and to carry out achchO ahchO (embrace her). Gesticulating with her hands, praying to him to come and embrace her, she enjoyed his activity. AzhwAr, through the quality of his affection for krishNa, desired the same activity and experienced that. Not stopping with that, yaSOdhAp pirAtti desired to experience the flavour of his activity of coming from behind on his own, with joy, falling on her back and embracing her. Praying to him for this activity, called as puRam pulguvAn (he will embrace the back), she experienced that activity when he carried it out. Desiring to experience the same, AzhwAr, having deep affection for krishNa, praises him for his eminence and simplicity, repeatedly asking him to carry out puRam pulguvAn, sees that at the same time as she did, and experiences it with joy, in this thirumozhi.
thiruvAimozhip piLLai, in his svApadhESam, says: just as it has been said in SrI rAmAyaNam ayOdhyA kANdam 17-14 “yaScha rAmam na paSyEth” (one who did see SrI rAma), AzhwAr, through the pretext of achchO achchO (embrace me) wanted to get rid of his shortcoming of not having been embraced by krishNa. He mercifully revealed his affection and emperumAn’s simplicity through his pAsurams [in that decad]. Now, in order to overcome the shortcoming, as said in the same SlOkam of SrI rAmAyaNam (ayOdhyA kANdam 17-14) “yancha rAmO na paSyathi” (the one who was not seen by SrI rAma), using the pretext of puRam pulguvAn (he will come from behind and embrace my back), he mercifully reveals as to how he was attracted to emperumAn’s abhinivESam [affection], ASritha pArathanthryam [being dependent on followers] and sauSeelyam [simplicity] in this thirumozhi.
