Oh, the complete one who is mercifully residing in thirunaRaiyUr where beetles are spread over the beautiful flowers! Oh, one who is mercifully present for the nithyasUris to proffer beautiful flowers and surrender unto you by performing anjali (joined palms) with their flower-like hands! Now, after knowing your sweetness, I will not allow you, who entered in my heart, to go somewhere else.

Highlights from vyAkyAnam (Commentary)

eppOdhum … – [bhagavAn says] Did we come and enter your heart due to some shortcoming in my side? Will I leave you now [due to becoming fulfilled]? [AzhwAr says] You remained to be worshippable as said in vishNu sUktham “sadhA paSyanthi” (nithyasUris are always seeing); with the ever-attractive flowers, nithyasUris worshipped and performed anjali with their hands which are like flowers and falling at your divine feet.

ippOdhu en nenjin uLLE …– I had no idea even a moment before your arrival [that you will arrive in my heart]

pugundhAyai … – While I did not even beseech you, you came voluntarily and announced your sweetness. Now, will I allow you to leave me?

nal pOdhu vaNdu kiNdum … – On the distinguished flowers, the beetles as said in thiruvAimozhi 1.7.11kudaindhu vaNdu uNNum” (beetles are submerged into the flowers while drinking their honey), oh, one who is having as your residence, thirunaRaiyUr which is an enjoyable place where the beetles can only go deep into the flowers and enjoy the honey and not go elsewhere! Is the town’s enjoyability such that those who were immersed in the sweetness of the town can seek other places?

In the next article we will enjoy the next pAsuram.
