Oh, one who is having the nature of being impossible to be known! Oh, enjoyable one who is reclining in thirukkadalmallai! Through which means am I capable of forgetting you, who are generous?

Highlights from vyAkyAnam (Commentary)

puL vAy piLandha … – Tearing bakAsura’s mouth. Instead of sending someone to eliminate the enemy of his devotees, he is having the purity of himself coming and doing it with his own hand.

AzhwAr called out saying “puL vAy piLandha punidhA“, What did bhagavAn do?

uLLE ninRu … – He thought it would not be sufficient to just come to him, he remained in AzhwAr’s heart and made him so cool as if a very dry place became shivering in cold.

kaLvA – It is impossible to estimate what he does for his devotees.

kadal mallaik kidandha karumbE – Oh, most tasteful one who has come and mercifully reclined in thirukkadalmallai! Here AzhwAr is saying “karumbE” (Oh, sugarcane!) to differentiate from milk which becomes curd when touched with bare hands.

vaLLAl … – As said in kata upanishath 1-2-23 “nAyamAthmA pravachanE na labhyO na mEdhayA na bahUnA SruthEna l yamEvaisha vruNuthE thEna labhyas thasyaisha AthmA vivruNuthE thanUm svAm ll” (This supreme entity cannot be attained by hearing, by thinking or by meditation (devoid of devotion), he fully manifested his beauty to be enjoyed by AzhwAr.

unnai enganam nAn maRakkEnE – What can I, who have accepted your favour, say and forget you, who are my benefactor?
