Simple translation

As the cloud with cruel wind rained hail, cowherd people thought in their heart “for us, this is like very dark night” and said “You, who are the protector of all, are our protector”. Saying this, as they feared, before that fear materialised, krishNa lifted the huge gOvardhana mountain with the surrounding mountains, and held, to not let the herds of cows suffer with fatigue. Such protector’s divine name is in the form of “namO nArAyaNa”.

Highlights from vyAkyAnam (Commentary)

kadungAl mAri … – Cloud with harsh wind poured down hail.

allE emakku … – As the cowherd people thought “This is like a night during deluge”, the cowherd people became frightened and said “We are not qualified to take care of our acts; you should be our protector”. Before the outcome of their fear materialised, krishNa held the gOvardhana mountain with broad bottom portion; also said as held the gOvardhana mountain along with the surrounding mountains. He protected the cows, which cannot understand the favour done by him, from suffering. For his protection, danger, which is known to an individual and his non-rejection are only required; there is no shortcoming in the natural relationship.
