sarvESvaran vowed and continuously engaged in creation to ensure that firmly standing mountains, ocean which is remaining stationary, directions and the vast earth, are not ruined even a little bit. He lifted the gOvardhan mountain as an umbrella. Oh devotees! I have sweetly explained such lord’s divine name to you.

Highlights from vyAkyAnam (Commentary)

ninRa varai … – Anchoring mountains which remain firm as anchors for the earth, the ocean which remains within its boundary without crossing the shore until ISvaran’s vow remains, the directions which help in identifying the position of individuals, earth which is qualified to be roamed around by creatures – thinking that none of these aspects should diminish, sarvESvaran creates these from his vow.

kunRu kudaiyA … – The divine name of the lord, who held the mountain as umbrella to not cause any harm to cowherd people and the cattle.

nanRu kANmin – It is good for oneself to recite the divine name of such person. Even if you don’t want to engage in apt actions, still you will desire for something sweet [which is bhagavAn himself].

thoNdIr sonnEn – I have explained this to everyone who has interest in serving bhagavAn. Those who don’t have interest in serving him, will not listen to this, in any case.

namO nArAyaNamE – It is not having thousand syllables like sahasrAksharI mAlA – but it is having only eight syllables.
