avathArikai (Introduction) – when people in her proximity told her “How could you say so harshly ‘kizhangOdum aLLip paRiththittu’? Since there is an entity [AthmA] which is sustaining it, and there is an indwelling soul, emperumAn, who is there, should you not carry out a means to attain that emperumAn and enjoy him?” She says “I wanted to enjoy him with this physical form. Leaving aside this form, taking another form which is different from this and carrying out an effort on my own, as the means, to attain him, is not necessary for me”.

Simple Translation

Instead of carrying out a confidential service to kaNNapirAn in this birth itself such that the irritation of my bosoms which are huge and which have risen, is removed, why should I carry out a penance after completing this birth, and reaching paramapadham? If he were to embrace me with his honest chest, that will be good. If, on the other hand, one day, speaking only the truth, if he were to look at my face and tell me “I do not need you; you may go”, that will be even better,

vyAkyAnam (Commentary)

kommai mulaigaL idar thIra – just like children who have grown up, pester their mother during times of famine, “Give us food” repeatedly, these bosoms pester me, saying “Show me the divine chest of gOvindhan, which is apt for us”. To rid the sorrow of these bosoms., which are huge and have risen. Their sorrow will be removed only if they belong to gOvindhan.

gOvindhaRku – these will not go to SrI vaikuNta nAthan [lord of paramapadham]. They will exist only for the one who goes behind cows.

Or kuRREval – it is a servitude which cannot be carried out by those who have a masculine form. It is an unparalleled servitude which can be carried out only by a lady with bosom. Could embracing with bosom be termed as a servitude? Yes, since servitude is that which is carried out by the limbs which one has.

immaip piRavi seyyAdhE inippOych cheyyum thavam dhAn en – just as sIthAp pirAtti had told hanuman in SrI rAmAyaNam sundhara kANdam 40-3 “yathA tham purushavyAgram gAthrai: SOkAbhikarSithai: l samsrupSEyam sakAmA’ham thathA kuru dhayAm mayi :” (you should mercifully shower your grace on me such that I, who am withering due to my sorrow, would be able to touch desirously SrI rAma, who is like a tiger among men, with my limbs), ANdAL wishes to embrace kaNNan with her physical form in this birth. If she does not get to carry that out, she is thinking that going to paramapadham, getting another physical form and embracing parama padha nAthan is similar to sages carrying out severe penance standing amidst four ritualistic fires, with the sun on top acting as the fifth fire.

semmai udaiya thirumArvil – his divine chest has the honesty of not refusing when one wishes to hug it.

sErththAnElum – embracing him, who is her ordained lord, is the ultimate benefit for her. If she gets this, she says that this will be good. Since she has used the term “Elum” (if) it appears that there is a doubt in this. She says further that if he does something else, it will be even better.

oru nAnRu meymmai solli – just as she has mentioned in nAchchiyAr thirumozhi 14-3 “ElAp poygaL uraippAnai”, even though he has as his habit the quality of telling only lies, is there any compulsion that he should not speak the truth even once? Let him speak the truth on one day. The lie which he speaks all the time is that when they are united, knowing in his heart that he is going to separate from her soon, he will say “I will not leave you. If I leave you, I cannot sustain myself”. Instead of saying such false words, if he were to speak only the truth, on one day….

mugam nOkki vidaidhAn tharumEl miga nanRu – instead of avoiding me, looking here and there, if he looks straight into my face and says “I do not have affection towards you. I have given you up. You may go”, making us to go away from him as we desire, that will be even better.

sErththAnEl nanRu, vidaidhAn tharumEl miga nanRu – if he embraces my bosoms with his divine chest tightly, it will be good. If he looks at my face and tells me “You are not needed, go”, allowing me to leave him and go, that will be very good. How is this? “If I desire to hug him and get embraced by him, it is certain that on some day in the future, I have to separate from him, resulting in sorrow since I cannot embrace him then. Instead, if he discards me saying ‘You may go’ I can get rid of this life, getting relieved from this sorrow forever and that will be even better”. It will be similar to the separation experienced by sIthAp pirAtti when SrI rAmapirAn arranged for leaving her in the forest, quoting something which a washerman had said when she was in her advanced stage of pregnancy, in such a way that there was no possibility of ever living with her.

Next, we will consider the last pAsuram of this decad.
