vyAkyAnam (Commentary)
malai adhanAl aNai katti madhiL ilangai azhiththavanE – Oh one who destroyed lankA, by building a bridge across the ocean, with mountains which have the property of sinking in water, and which was a protective fort for lankA, while lankA was further protected by its fortified walls!
alai kadalaik kadaindhu amararkku amudhu aruLich cheydhavanE – Oh one who churned the deep ocean to take out nectar and offered it to celestial entities so that they will not face death at the hands of demons!
kalai valavar thAm vAzhum kaNapuraththu en karumaNiyE – there are fourteen vidhyAsthAnams (knowledge in arts) in SAsthras, namely four vEdhas, six auxiliaries, the prologue and epilogue in mImAmsai (philosophy), nyAya SAsthram (treatise on justice), ithihAsa purANam and dharma SAsthram (treatise on righteousness). thirukkaNNapuram is inhabited by experts on these SAsthrams and who enjoy you in that place. Oh one who is my bluish gemstone, who has taken residence mercifully in such thirukkaNNapuram and who has the simplicity of ruling that place, by controlling such scholars!
