 Simple Translation

Oh, one who gives me joy in abundance! Oh, one who is difficult to know for the celestial entities! Oh, one who is like a king, who killed the elephant, kuvalayApeedam, which had a pot-like structure on its forehead! Oh, one who creates fear, like yama, in the cruel mind of kamsan! Oh, one who is having thiruveLLaRai, which has fortified walls which are desirous like reddish gold, as your residence! Oh, one who is like a child, growing with the pride of wealth! Do not stand in places where dhurgai, who has skulls on her form, making those who behold her to tremble in fear, roams around, which you would see! Come at once to me such that I could carry out kAppu for you.

vyAkhyAnam (Commentary)

inbam adhanai uyarththAy – Oh, one who created abundant joy for me through experiencing the activities of your divine incarnation and auspicious qualities! Just as it has been mentioned in perumAL thirumozhi 7-8thozhugaiyum ivai kaNda asOdhai thollai inbaththu iRudhi kaNdAL” (yaSOdhAp pirAtti, who saw you performing anjali to her [cupping the palms together in salutation] saw the boundary of unbounded pleasures), she felt more and more joyful on seeing his activities.

thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here that krishNa, more than the joy which comes out of his being the purushArtham [ultimate benefit], showed his activities as a result of his incarnation as well as his auspicious qualities such as simplicity etc to AzhwAr splendorously. As a result, krishNa made AzhwAr to carry out mangaLASAsanam for him.

imaiyavarkku enRum aRiyAy – Oh, one who is out of bounds for celestial entities who try to attain you through their knowledge and power! Through this, his eminence, as opposed to the simplicity mentioned in the previous verse, has been narrated.

thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here that this simplicity, which emperumAn showed when he incarnated here, is difficult to see even for nithyasUris [permanent dwellers of SrI vaikuNtam]. Alternatively, emperumAn does not manifest this simplicity to celestial entities here.

kumbak kaLiRatta kOvE – Just as it has been mentioned in periya thirumozhi 4.1.9kumba migu madha yAnai” (the elephant kuvalayApeedam which was in rut, and which had a huge forehead), oh, one who is like a king, having effortlessly annihilated kuvalayApeedam, which had a huge forehead, with your valour!

kodum kanjan nenjinil kURRE – Oh, one who appears like yama [the deity of death], creating fear in the mind of kamsan, who was always cruel towards you!

thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here that the cruel mind of kamsan is krishNa’s yama [since he keeps thinking of ways to harm krishNa, constantly]. Oh, one who became a crueller yama for kamsan, by annihilating that thought itself from kamsan’s mind!

sem pon madhiL veLLaRaiyAy – Oh, one who has thiruveLLaRai, which has fortified walls glittering like pure gold!

thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here: oh, one who has the divine abode of thiruveLLaRai, which is surrounded by fortified walls which are regarded highly by mangaLASAsanaparars, as your identity!

selvaththinAl vaLar piLLAy – SrI rAma, the son of emperor dhaSaratha, was always under the control of many persons [such as sages bharathwAja, agasthya et al, sugrIva et al), doing as per their wishes. Unlike that, oh, one who was outside anyone’s control, who did as you wished, who ate as you desired and grew up with the pride of wealth!

kambak kabAli kAn angu – the place [where you are standing] is frequented by dhurgai, who has skull and axe on her form, creating trembling in the minds of those who behold her. Alternatively, kabAli would refer to rudhra too.

thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here that it is the time when one, who creates fear in the minds of even followers through his cruel form and having a skull on his hand, roams around. Do not stand there. Come at once here such that I could carry out kAppu for you.

kadidhu Odik kAppida vArAy – Do not stand in places where such lowly deities keep roaming. You should come at once, to me, such that I could carry out kAppu for you.

We shall next consider the 9th pAsuram of this thirumozhi.
