avathArikai (Introduction) – she brings the prabandham to an end by stating the benefit to those who meditate on this decad, which is that they will constantly carry out servitude to emperumAn.

Simple Translation

ANdAL, the divine daughter of periyAzhwAr, had mercifully composed these pAsurams on how she had seen thirumAl in SrI brindhAvanam, on this world, who had bestowed his mercy on gajEndhrAzhwAn who had stout legs. Those who meditate on these pAsurams, treating them in their minds as the medicine for the disease of repeated births, will have permanent enjoyment under the divine, eminent feet of emperumAn, forever, without separating from him.

vyAkyAnam (Commentary)

parundhAL kaLiRRukku aruL seydha – this speaks about the mercy which emperumAn showered on the elephant which had stout legs. Since it had a huge form, its pain also would have been intolerable for the elephant.

paraman thannai – such an elephant entered a pond which was not its own place, got caught by the crocodile and in pain, cried out “AdhimUlamE” (Oh, one who is the root of all entities!). As soon as emperumAn heard that cry, he came running, with his ornaments and weapons in a disarray, with his dress and locks dishevelled, to that pond. He stroked that elephant such that its injury got healed, such that it could be said that in terms of protecting all entities, there was none anywhere near him. It is pertinent to recall the SlOkam in SrI vishNu dharmam 69-47 “paramApadhamApannO manasA’chinthayath harim l sa thu nAgavara: SrImAn nArAyaNa parAyaNa: ll” (that gajEndhrAzhwAn, who was in severe danger, who had the wealth of servitude and who had taken refuge under SrIman nArAyaNan, thought of hari (emperumAn) in his mind). What is the reason for ANdAL to think of this narrative here? She recalls this in order to highlight that she too had distress due to separation from emperumAn, just like the danger which the elephant had and just as emperumAn had removed the distress of that elephant, he removed her distress too, by manifesting himself to her.

pArin mEl virundhAvanaththE kaNdamai – seeing him, not in SrI vaikuNtam, not in a common place in this world such as thiruvAyppAdi, but in SrI brindhAvanam, where he gave himself to those who desired him.

vittuchiththan kOdhai sol – the means which she had for seeing such a sight was that she was the daughter of periyAzhwAr. Didn’t she already say in nAchchiyAr thirumozhi 10-10vittu chiththar thangaL dhEvarai valla parisu varuvipparEl adhu kANdumE”!

marundhAm enRu tham manaththE vaiththukkoNdu vAzhvArgaL – keeping firmly in their minds that this is the medicine for samsAram [living repeatedly in materialistic realm], without having fear, as mentioned in thaiththirIya upanishath Anandhavalli 9 “Anandham brahmaNO vidhvAn na bibhEthi kuthaSchana” (one who knows the bliss of brahmam [emperumAn] will not fear anything)

perundhALudaiya pirAn adikkIzh – carrying out servitude to emperumAn’s divine feet which are the best entity among all entities to be attained. Did she not mercifully say in thiruppAvai 29unakkE nAm AtseyvOm” (we shall be subservient to you only)!

piriyAdhu enRum iruppArE – without the need for asking some people “Did you see him?”, like I did, having the fortune of seeing him all the time, and enjoying him all the time as their pastime.

This brings us to the end of this dhivya prabandham.
