In this pAsuram, dhEvaki laments about the pleasures which she had not enjoyed when krishNa was a child.

Simple Translation

Oh one who mixes easily with everyone! Oh my child who has distinguished beauty! Oh one who looks after cows! I have lost the fortune of having you in my arms as I was nursing you, playing with one bosom with your soft, tender like hand and having the other bosom in your mouth, looking at me and smiling mercifully. I have also lost the beautiful glance with which you look at me and shower your mercy.

kuzhaganE endhan kOmaLap piLLAy – The word kuzhagan refers to a child who mingles with everyone. The implied meaning is that when one is engaged with daily routines such as churning curd to get butter etc, without looking at the child, the child will indulge in activities due to which one will forget the work in which one is involved and look only at the child.

kOmaLap piLLAy – one who has such a soft form that merely looking at him will make his body to become reddish.

gOvindhA – one who had plenty of cows and calves even at the time of birth. This indicates the engagement which dhEvaki had with krishNa in his infant days.

en kudangaiyil manni – being in my hand

ozhugu pErezhil iLam siRu thaLir pOl oru kaiyAl oru mulai mugam nerudA – with your divine hand, in which beauty is flooding, and which is like a tender leaf, stroking the bosom so that she will give milk wholeheartedly.

mazhalai mennagai aruLA vAyilE mulai irukka in mugaththE – smiling, now and then, with the infant face even as the other bosom was inside his mouth, making her to give milk.

ezhilkoL nin thirukkaNNiNai nOkkam thannaiyum izhandhEn izhandhEnE – Your divine eyes are so beautiful that they will even make those who are not involved in this to get involved. I have lost that glance too. By letting you to go soon after you were born, I have lost the enjoyment of your childish activities.
