Highlights from vyAkyAnam (Commentary)
uruththu … – uru – anger. It is said in thiruchchandha viruththam 43 “venjinaththa vEzha veNmarupposiththu uruththa mA kanjanaik kadandhu” (Broke the very angry elephant’s tusk and killing the very angry kamsa). One who came with rising anger asking “Who is giving the war cry in wrong time?)
vAli mArvil oru kaNai uruva Otti – On vAli’s firm chest, where any arrows shot at would go in vain and who is indestructible. As said in SrI rAmAyaNam bAla kANdam 1.66 “EkEna mahEshuNA” (With a single arrow, SrI rAma pierced the seven ebony trees and the lower worlds) – he shot an arrow which he could lay his hands on and shot at him to make the arrow to pierce though his chest and come out, on the other side. Even the arrow which was shot at in a careless manner could pierce him through.
karuththu … – sugrIva who has the talent to rule the kingdom as done by vAli; alternative explanation – sugrIva who stayed in exile in the forest on hearing the name of vAli; he made pANdavas though they did not want victory as they said in SrI bhagavath gIthA 1.32 “na kAnkshE vijayam krishNa” (Oh krishNa! I don’t desire for victory). making sugrIva mahArAjar who is dear to your divine heart victorious. SrI rAmAyaNam bAla kANdam 1.76 is explained here. thath rAjyE – sugrIva ruling the regime is similar to a doe present in a lion’s den. rAghava: – SrI rAma, who is born in the raghu clan, where the kings can appoint anyone to rule any kingdom. Suka and sAraNa who are rAvaNa’s spies themselves told in SrI rAmAyaNam yudhdha kANdam 28.27 “SrImathA rAjarAjEna lankAyAm abhishEchitha:” (vibhIshaNa was crowned by SrI rAma who is the king of kings and owns all wealth). SrImathA – Unlike the wealth of brahmA et al who crowned you, vibhIshaNa was crowned by SrI rAma who has perennial wealth. rAja rAjEna – SrI rAma who incarnated to help brahmA et al, who crowned you, retain their crown. lankAyAm abhishEchitha: – Now, you go and search a place to stay. Suka and sAraNa, though being rAvaNa’s servants who know about his wealth and control, speak in praise of SrI rAma like this due to having seen SrI rAma standing with his bow in his hands; they are speaking like this since rAvaNa was disrespectfully thinking “What are these mosquito like people going to do for us?”
inbak kadhir mudi arasu aLiththAy – You mercifully gave the crown which brings joy and respect, and the kingdom which is ruled under such crown.
paruththu … – The trees are similar to SrI vAmanan, where they were well-grown even while sprouting. They are fruit-bearing even while sprouting.
pazham – There is endless enjoyment while there is scarcity for enjoyers.
karuththanE – It is apt for an incapable person ( like me) to hold on to a capable person (like you).
kAvaLam thaN … – After you, who are capable are present here, you should be the protector.
