Simple Translation
kaRpaga tree is a wish-fulfilling tree, growing only in celestial region. sathyabhAmA, krishNa’s dear consort, desired that the tree should be planted in the backyard of her house [in dhwArakA]. krishNa assured her that he will immediately give that to her. The one, who planted that tree in her backyard, which is shining with moonlight, and nurtured it, will embrace my back. The one, who is the lord of nithyasUris, will embrace my back.
vyAkhyAnam (Commentary)
kaRpagam … – sathyabhAmA, krishNan’s consort, desired to have the kaRpaga tree (wish-fulfilling tree which grows only in celestial region) planted in her backyard, in dhwArakA. indhran’s consort, SaSi, insulted her saying that these trees grow only in celestial region and not on earth. krishNa, instead of telling her “I will bring this tomorrow” or “We will see this later”, told her that he would plant it immediately in dhwArakA and uprooted the tree. indhran, who was affectionate towards krishNa until then, was upset that a blade of grass had been uprooted from his backyard and went after krishNa with his vajrAyudham [a weapon] to get back the tree. After being subdued by krishNa, he realised his mistake and praised him. krishNa told him, as his pledge, “Let this remain in dhwArakA for some time and then, come back here”. Just as it has been mentioned in periya thirumozhi 6-8-7 “vaNthuvarai nattavan” (one who planted in the fertile dhwArakA), he planted the tree in the backyard of sathyabhAmA’s house in dhwArakA, which was radiant with moonlight. Since the pAsuram says uyththavan [one who nurtured], it is evident that the tree, after being transplanted in dhwArakA, was growing abundantly, with tender leaves, flowers and branches.
thiruvAimozhip piLLai, in his svApadhESam, says that karpaga tree will grow only in celestial regions and nowhere else. “nIyathAm pArijAthOyam krishNa dhwAravathIm purIm I marthya lOkE thvayA mukthE nAyam samsthAsathE bhuvi ll (Let this kaRpaga tree come with you to dhwArakApuri. Àfter being liberated by you from manushyalOkam (earth), let it return to celestial region as it will not be able to grow on earth). Knowing that if he had told her “I will do it tomorrow” she would feel hurt and he could not postpone it to a later time due to his affection for her, he decided to fulfil her desire immediately. indhra was feeling proud that this tree would be nurtured only in their lands, for their women and that they would protect the tree. Feeling angry that krishNa had uprooted the tree to take it with him to dhwArakA, indhra took his vajrAyudham and followed krishNa to fight with him. Since he failed in his activity, he bowed down to krishNa and prayed to him saying that the tree could be in dhwArakA till krishNa desires and then it could come back to the celestial region.
ennai – one, who is a servitor to his consort, will come and embrace my back.
umbarkOn … – losing out to krishNa’s quality of carrying out a task for his dear consort, nithyasUris gave in writing that they have lost out to his nature of fulfilling her desire. One, who is the controller of nithyasUris, will embrace my back.
