arjuna surrendered to krishNa, saying “Oh kaNNa, who is holding the divine sword in your divine hand! You should be my protector”. One who conducted the attractive, firm chariot for arjuna such that the hearts of the kings on earth became distressed, will embrace my back. One, who is the lord of celestial entities will embrace my back.

vyAkhyAnam (Commentary)

nAndhagam …– holding the short dagger, called as nAndhakam, all the time, as if holding a flower in your divine hand, so that there is no delay when it comes to protecting the followers. You, who are complete with all the auspicious qualities for protecting your followers, should be my protector.

thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here that just like sArngavil (divine bow called as “SArngavil”), the dagger, called as nAndhakam is a thirukkuRRudaivAL, a short dagger, a unique type of sword. Endhiya – one who holds it as if it were a flower; nambi charaN – being biased towards arjuna who took refuge under you saying “oh, one who has completeness of qualities such as valour etc! You should protect me”

thAzhndha …– as one who is biased towards arjuna, who took refuge under you

dharaNi … – all the kings who were on earth, were distressed seeing you being biased towards arjuna and conducting his chariot skilfully, wondering “Is there anything now by which we could survive?”

visayan … – one, who conducted the beautiful, firm chariot of arjuna, as his charioteer, will embrace my back.

umbar kOn … – celestial entities had desired that you should incarnate and reduce the excessive burden on earth; by annihilating the evil forces, you had become the controller of those celestial entities. Such an entity will embrace my back.
