Simple translation

sarvESvaran killed with one arrow karan et al who carry heavily stained spear and those who are known as kabandhan, vAli et al; he severed and pushed down the heads of rAkshasa army in lankA who were having crescent like bent teeth and sword as their weapon, along with their leader rAvaNa who is the leader of all armies; I got to see such emperumAn in thirukkOvalUr where every home chants vEdha gOsham increasingly, the fame increases and repeatedly recite vEdham tumultuously; as the vEdham is repeatedly recited in halls and choultries, the southerly breeze which is rested on the garden along the water moat is emitting fragrance.

Highlights from vyAkyAnam (Commentary)

kaRai … – Due to eagerness in harming others, always destroying enemies, there is no time to wash the blood stains, and because of that there is a lot of stains in the spear. These persons such as karan, kabandhan, vAli et al who are having such spear. While karan, virAdhan et al appear, they will have lions, tigers etc hanging on the spears.

kaNai onRinAl madiya – He finished them with an arrow which he could get hold of. This is how the leaders who were guarding, were killed.

ilangai … – All the rAkshasas in lankA who were having crescent like teeth and weapons.

perum thagai … – perum thagai means periyOn (leader); controller – king. rAvaNa being their king, their refuge and the one who is the shade to those evil persons who will take shelter of him, was eliminated along with them, by the lord; it is the owner who will take out the weeds.

Just as in SrI dhaNdakAraNyam where recital of vEdham continued without a break after the killing of rAvaNa, the same thing happened in thirukkOvalUr.

mAdam thORum – As the sound of vEdham recital keeps increasing in houses, the fame increases. This is how the houses are.

maNdabangaL … – Halls; oNthoLi – beautiful thOLi. thOLi is shrunk as thoLi; implies prathOL (four way junctions). In halls, four way junctions, they will sit around and recite vEdhams.

siRai … – Well protected. Only air and emperumAn who is quicker than air can enter. The southerly breeze which has entered and is resting on the garden which is along the moat for the town, picks up water drops and the fragrance from the garden, and gently serves those who are reciting vEdham to eliminate their fatigue. oLi – ozhungai. Located close to the moat.

Highlights from vyAkyAnam (Commentary)

thAngarum … – Just as an old ant-hill will never become free from snakes, even before rAvaNan, lankA was always filled with evil persons starting with mAli et al; he killed them in this manner. In the battle which cannot be tolerated by anyone, mAli who was engaged was killed by emperumAn by riding his garudAzhwAr.

tharA thalam – Had mAli lived even for a fraction of a moment further, the whole world would have been destroyed.

kOngu … – In the gardens which have dense rows of kOngu flowers, surapunnai trees, kuravu trees, the beetles which gathered were humming songs having drunk honey; having heard such songs, the sugarcane grew one more part as if it was watered.
