krishNa was born with auspicious qualities, protecting himself from monsters such as kamsan et al. People in SrI gOkulam, desirous of seeing him, would enter the house of SrI nandhagOpar and those who had already entered and seen him, would exit, speaking among themselves “Among those who have masculine features, there is who is equivalent to him. He would rule all the worlds of sarvESvaran”
vyAkhyAnam (Commentary)
pENich chIrudai piLLai piRandhinil – should be rearranged as sIr udaiya piLLai pENip piRandhinil – during the time of his incarnation, since he listened to his parents and carried out their wish, he has auspicious qualities. sIr – quality [auspicious]. What did the parents say and what did he do? He was born with the divine form of emperumAn, having the divine weapons, with lotus-like eyes, lotus-like feet etc. vasudhEvar and dhEvaki, looking at his divine form at the time of his birth, became scared, thinking of kamsan. vasudhEvar told him as in SrI vishNu purANam 5-9-13 “upasamhara” (hide all the divine forms); immediately, krishNa hid his divine form. Thus, even at the time of his birth, he exhibited the auspicious quality of listening to his parents. He hid himself from the eyes of unfavourable entities such as kamsan et al, and incarnated in SrI gOkulam. AzhwAr considers that krishNa was born, only after he reached SrI gOkulam.
kANaththAm puguvAr – Desirous of seeing infant krishNa, the people in SrI gOkulam would enter SrI nandhagOpar’s mansion. Even though some of them would also have got infants born in their respective home around the same time, even they would come to nandhagOpar’s house to see infant krishNa, more than seeing their own children.
pukkup pOdhuvAr – after entering and seeing krishNa, they will leave the mansion, leaving their eyes and hearts behind, with infant krishNa.
What is the reason for this greatness?
ANoppAr …. – those who are conversant with all the qualities of masculinity, after seeing him, would say “Among those who have masculine qualities, there is none who would equal him”. Some others would say “Looking at his features, we could say that he would rule all the worlds of the supreme entity who has the star thiruvONam [SravaNam]” They were talking in this manner, due to overflowing affection upon seeing infant krishNa. If the text were ANoppAn ivan nErillai [instead of ANoppAr…..], ANoppu would refer to features of a male. oppAn could be transformed as oppAl which would mean “In the features of a male”. Thus, the new meaning of the verse ANoppAn ivan nErillai would be that in the features of a male, there is none who is equal to him
This group of people could be added to the group of people seen in the previous pAsuram and these people would celebrate along with them.
We shall next consider the 4th pAsuram of this thirumozhi.
