Simple Translation

Oh, cool clouds who have risen up and are shining, carrying cool water! Oh, clouds who have spread out and are showering rains on thirumalai where emperumAn, who had received earth from mahAbali through alms, is mercifully residing! nArAyaNan had usurped my glories by entering inside me and making me withered, just like huge mosquitoes eat wood apple. Tell him about my disease of wretchedness.

vyAkyAnam (Commentary)

salam koNdu kiLarndhu ezhundha – the clouds have filled up water and are roaming at higher levels just like people roam around selling cardamom liquid, saying “Elakkuzhambu, Elakkuzhambu”. The implied meaning is that just as you carry water, which is the sustaining material for people, within your form without expecting anything in return, you should carry out my task too.

thaNmugilgAL – is there any need for you to shower the water [as rains]? Isn’t your form itself sufficient to invigorate people? Here again, the underlying opinion is that you, who remove the ennui of others, should remove my suffering too.

mAvaliyai nilam koNdAn vEngadaththE – you are living in the place where the one who had obtained land as alms for celestial entities from mAvali, by transforming himself as a mendicant, is dwelling. Should you not carry out a task for me when I am seeking from you? I am not sending you to a monster, just as the celestial entities did. Am I not sending you as messenger to nArAyaNan, who owns us all!

nirandhu – pervading everywhere

ERip pozhivIrgAL – sprouted vessels, carrying water, [called in thamizh as sAykaram, are kept at a height in sheds for quenching thirst of travellers so that they could drink water comfortably. By looking at these vessels from a distance, people will know about it. Similar to that, you are also removing the thirst of people when they look at you, by climbing to a great height and showering rain. The meaning hinted is that since you are living in the same place where emperumAn is residing, should you also not have mercy without any cause for showering, like him?

Assuming that they are asking her as to what they should do, she replies through the latter half of the pAsuram…

ulanguNda viLanganipOl uLmeliyap pugundhu – the term ulangu refers to a type of mosquito which is large in size. Once mosquitoes swarm a wood apple, the fruit will lose its juice fully and become dried up. In the same way, emperumAn entered me and usurped my wellness, my fullness, my heart and my bangles, by embracing me.

ennai nalam koNda – one who usurped everything from me

nAraNarkku – he is the AthmA (indwelling soul) for all entities and all entities form a part of his divine form. Thus, one who considers leelA vibhUthi, which is full of dirt, as an enjoyable material…

en nadalai nOy seppuminE – convey to him my disease of wretchedness brought about by separation from him. Ask him “Where is harmony between your [emperumAn’s] quality of vAthsalyam (motherly forbearance) and my suffering?”

nadalai nOy – the suffering in separation, leading to standing, sitting, falling down, getting up etc

en nadalai nOy – if he too had been suffering from this disease of separation, he would not have remained aloof, for me to send a messenger. Thus, the meaning hinted is that this wretchedness is only for me.

seppuminE – all that you have to do is to announce this disease to him.

Next, we will consider the 7th pAsuram of this decad.
