avathArikai (Introduction) – she says that she experienced tying of kangaNam (sacred, yellow coloured thread, tied at the wrist) at the beginning of the wedding events.

Simple Translation

Oh, dear friend! Many eminent brAhmaNas brought sacred waters from the four directions and sprinkled the water around the wedding arena. They recited hymns in a high pitch and blessed the sacred thread which is to be tied on the wrist. I dreamt that they tied the thread, uniting me with kaNNapirAn, who is the most sacred and who had donned garlands strung with many types of flowers.

vyAkyAnam (Commentary)

nARRisaith thIrtham koNarndhu – just as the army of monkeys brought water from oceans in all four directions during the coronation ceremony of SrI rAma pirAn, bringing sacred water from the four directions.

nani nalgi – sprinkling well. Since they [eminent brAhmaNas] firmly believe in the saying of SAsthras (sacred texts) that sprinkling sacred water around the wedding arena forebodes long life and other such benefits, they sprinkled the sacred water all around.

pArppanach chittargaL pallAr eduththEththi – not only are they brAhmaNas due to their clan of birth, but they are also celebrated by everyone as having learnt to recite vEdham and having good conduct and qualities. These brAhmaNas, who are experts in conducting marriage events, bless the bride and bridegroom in high pitch. Instead of pallAr eduththEththi, there is a variation in the text as pallANdu eduththEththi [meaning is the same as in the earlier one].

pUppunai kaNNip punidhanOdu – unlike ANdAL, the bride, who is decorated extensively during the time of wedding, for kaNNa pirAn, the bridegroom, only one garland was used. After taking a bath, he kept telling everyone who came near him “Don’t come too close to me”, ensuring that a distance was maintained between him and the others, coming to the wedding arena with purity and AchAram [observing good conduct]. Does kaNNan have such AchAram? [being a cowherd, he normally moves with plenty of his friends through the day, and is not known to observe such AchAram] It appears that since he was going to marry the divine daughter of periyAzhwAr, unless he showed that he followed all the tenets of AchAram, he will not be allowed to marry ANdAL; hence, he voluntarily brought in these AchAram.

en thannai kAppu nAN katta – though I did not get to touch him, the way I desired, I had the fortune to touch the purOhit (the priest who conducts the wedding ceremony) who, in turn, had touched kaNNan. Even as the kangaNam was tied to my wrist, I went in the proximity of emperumAn, through his thoughts.

thOzhI nAn – there is no benefit greater than being thought of by him. Once I went in his thoughts, oh my friend, what I had to attain was readily available. In other words, the meaning conveyed is that both the means and the benefit are through his thoughts only.
