Oh lord who are resembling a well expanded dark bluish sun which is having reddish, cool lotus like eye, hand, foot and reddish mouth, which has endless rays which are spreading! You should come and appear in front of me; otherwise, you should call me to make me come forward and stand under your blossomed lotus like divine feet which united with the whole universe and mercifully engage me in service in your divine presence.

Highlights from nampiLLai‘s vyAkyAnam as documented by vadakkuth thiruvIdhip piLLai
- vandhu thOnRAy – You should appear in my sight. AzhwAr is calling emperumAn who is praised as in periya thirumozhi 8.5.1 “thandhai kAlil vilangaRa vandhu thOnRiya thOnRal” (the lord who appeared to break the shackles of his father), to come and appear in front of him.
- anREl – If you don’t see my suffering and your compassion, and present yourself to me. Also explained as, if you don’t see my inferiority and your supremacy, and present yourself to me.
- un vaiyam thAya malar adi – The divine feet which did not discriminate between vaSishta (great scholar) and chaNdALa (dog-eater).
- malar adi – With your fresh flower like divine feet, you measured the world which has forests and rough terrains.
- malar adik kIzh mundhi vandhu yAn niRpa – To make me come forward and stand in front of the infinitely enjoyable divine feet.
- mugappE – in your vicinity.
- kUvip paNi koLLAy – You feed me and engage me in service. As said in SrI rAmAyaNam AraNya kANdam 15.7 “kriyathAmithi mAm vadha” (lakshmaNa to SrI rAma – order me in what should be done), you should mercifully engage me in service in your vicinity. I am not like SrI bharathAzhwAn who could sustain himself by meditating upon emperumAn’s qualities; you should engage me who is like iLaiya perumAL (lakshmaNa) who said in SrI rAmAyaNam ayOdhyA kANdam 53.31 “muhUrtham api jeevAva: jalAn mathsyA vivOthruthau” (if we separate from you, we will die like a fish out of the water), in service. I will not remain wherever I am placed saying as in thiruvAimozhi 3.3.1 “vazhuvilA adimai seyya vENdum” (I should perform continuous service) and in thiruvAimozhi 2.3.7 “ninnalAl ilEn” (I have no existence without you). Does AzhwAr not say as in thiruvAimozhi 8.1.9 “nanRum anjuvan naragam nAn adaidhal” (I am very scared in reaching the samsAram).
- sem thaN … – You should appear like a dark bluish sun which is having reddish, cool lotus like eye, hand, foot and reddish mouth, which has endless rays unlike being limited by thousand rays, which are spreading.
- ammAnE – Either you should see your supremacy and take me to paramapadham and engage me in service there, or if you don’t desire to be finished, you should come here and accept my service.
