vyAkyAnam (Commentary)
kadalE! kadalE! – The reason for calling out to the ocean twice is that if she had called out once, due to the uproarious waves thrown out by the ocean, it may not have heard.
unnaik kadaindhu kalakkuRuththu – did he not churn and agitate you even when you are his mattress! You had carried out a help to him by being his mattress. At the beginning of a battle, the foot soldiers are destroyed. Similar to that, did he not churn and agitate you, by dropping a mountain inside you? He did not even consider that you are his mattress. Is he not one who ties a stone around the person who gave him place to sleep, churns and agitates you and extracts the essence? Since you too were tormented by him, just like he tormented me, you should carry out my task.
udaluL pugundhu ninRu Ural aRuththavaRku – Was he not one who made you as his mattress, embraced you and subsequently churned and extracted essence? In the name of carrying out the task of celestial entities who prayed to him, his intention was to extract your essence.
ennaiyum udaluL pugundhu ninRu URal aRukkinRa – he removed my essence [life] too, embracing me.
mAyaRku – just as nammAzhwAr had said in thiruvAimozhi 5-3-5 “kodiya en nenjam avan enRE kidakkum” (my bad heart (disregarding the worldly limits, unable to withdraw by highlighting the defects) will remain, thinking of him alone as the only refuge),he is an amazing entity who will create involvement with him[even after all these]
en nadalaigaLellAm – all the troubles which I had undergone. I had also suffered all the troubles which you had undergone. Going to the shore, returning, not sleeping through the day and night, calling out [through the uproar] and striving continuously without a break are all the activities through which the ocean is suffering. In the same way, ANdAL too keeps standing, sitting, falling down, getting up again, thus suffering.
nAgaNaikkE senRu uraiththiyE – will you not go to the serpent-mattress and inform? It is indeed a difficult act to approach him and inform. However, if you approach, then our friend, ananthAzhwAn is there to recommend our cause. Thus, our task will get fulfilled. Did not nammAzhwAr too consider thiruvananthAzhwAn as purushakAram (recommendatory entity) when he said in thiruvAimozhi 5-10-11 “nAgaNaimisai nambirAn charaNE SaraN namakku” (only the divine feet of our lord, who is resting on the lap of thiruvananthAzhwAn, are our refuge)!
Next, we will consider the last pAsuram of this decad.
