avathArikai (Introduction) – AndAL brings this decad to its end, with her desire having been fulfilled, and gives the benefit of reciting this decad. In the pravESam (introduction) to this decad, it was said “This decad explains the ways in which they expressed their distress, the different ways in which they praised him, how he returned their dresses to them and united with them”. In this pAsuram [3.10], there is no mention about their union. However, in the next decad, since they are indulging in kUdal izhaiththal (drawing circles), asking for union with kaNNan, it is clear that union should have happened in this decad.

kaNNapirAn, who is with a dark complexion, had indulged in playful deeds with young girls [of thiruvAyppAdi]. ANdAL, the divine daughter of periyAzhwAr, who is the head of those who inhabit SrIvillipuththUr, surrounded by beautiful, gold-like mansions, has mercifully composed with sweet tunes, as a garland of words, those playful deeds. Those who are capable of learning these ten pAsurams, along with their meanings, will reach paramapadham and will live there forever, carrying out permanent kainkaryam to thirumAl.
vyAkyAnam (Commentary)
kanniyarOdu ….. kariya pirAn viLaiyAttai – since the cowherd girls have been identified as kanniyar (maids), it is hinted here that they are of the age at which they would believe the words mentioned by kaNNan, that they will always have appropriate age for kaNNan, always being fresh even if he keeps enjoying with them forever, and that they are children who would not tolerate his mischievous deeds.
engaL nambi – the term nambi refers to one who is complete; here, kaNNan is complete in harassing the five lakh girls in the cowherd clans.
kariya pirAn – even if he does not have mischievous disposition in his heart, which will make them to engage with him, he has beauty in his divine form which will make them to fall head over heels on him.
viLaiyAttai – she hints that this is a playful deed indulged in by paramAthmA [supreme entity] to unite with jIvAthmA [entity with knowledge] and not the deed of a mischievous person
ponniyal mAdangaL sUzhndha pudhuvaiyar kOn bhattan kOdhai – the implied meaning is that ANdAL has such an engagement with kaNNan only because she is the divine daughter of periyAzhwAr, who is the leader of those who live in SrIvillipuththUr, a place which is surrounded by beautiful mansions which are like gold.
innisaiyAl sonna mAlai – just as it has been said in SrI rAmAyaNam bAla kANdam 4.8 “pAtyE gEyE cha madhuram pramANai thribhir anvitham” (the epic SrI rAmAyaNam is composed with three types of metrics, and is sweet whether it is read or sung), it is sweet to listen to, for everyone, whether it is recited with or without tunes, and is enjoyable like garland for emperumAn.
Iraindhum vallavar thAm pOy manniya mAdhavanOdu vaigundham pukkirupparE – those who recite these ten pAsurams, with their meanings, will reach the permanent SrI vaikuNtam, will permanently enjoy the union with SrIman nArAyaNan, which ANdAL and the cowherd girls experienced here, and will live happily.
Next, we will consider the pravESam of the 4th decad.
