Simple Translation

Unable to bear the activity of sarvESvaran, who is complete in all auspicious qualities and who incarnated as SrI rAma, of going to the forest, dhaSarathan, who has shoulders like a mountain, decorated with victorious garland, lamented. kulaSEkhara AzhwAr, who is an expert in handling spear and who has the regal white coloured umbrella, mercifully composed those words of lament into ten great pAsurams in thamizh language. Those who are experts in reciting these ten pAsurams will not go in bad ways.

Er Arndha karu nedumAL irAmanAy vanam pukka adhanukku ARRA – sarvESvaran is complete in all aspects and is greater than everyone else. Such sarvESvaran incarnated as SrI rAma, and went to the forest, which even those who are born due to their karma, will not go to.  Unable to bear this …

thAr Arndha thadavaraith thOL dhayaradhan thAn pulambiya ap pulambal thannai – the lament which chakravarthi dhaSarathan, who has a victorious garland on his firm, mountain-like shoulders, expressed as his grief

kUr Arndha vEl valavan …….soRcheydha – mercifully composed by kulaSEkhara AzhwAr, who has sharp spear, who is the head of kOzhi, also called as uRaiyUr, the capital city of chOzha kingdom, and who has the regal, white coloured umbrella as manifestation of his wealth

sIr Arndha thamizh mAlai ivai vallAr – SrI rAmAyaNam bAlakANdam 4.8 says “pAtyE gEyE cha madhuram pramANais thribhiranvitham l jAthibhis sapthabhir badhdham thanthreelayasamanvitham ll” ((kuSa and lava sang) SrI rAma kAviyam (SrI rAma’s narrative) which is sweet to read or to sing, having three meters (namely dhrutham, madhyam and viLambitham), having seven notes (namely shatjam, nishAdham, dhaivatham, panchamam, madhyamam, ghAndhAram, rishabham), in synchronisation with the strings of vINA and rhythm). Those who learn this decad of thamizh pAsurams which are like garlands, complete with all the grammatical metrics of music,

thI neRIkkaN sellAr thAmE – will not go in the path of disregarding bhagavath vishayam (matters relating to emperumAn) and engaging with materialistic matters such as Sabhdham etc (sound,vision, smell, taste and touch, relating to the senses).
