Oh one who created brahmA on the divine lotus-like navel! Oh one who is the eldest son of dhaSaratha! Oh one who is the consort of sIthAp pirAtti! Oh one who is like a blue coloured gemstone who has taken residence mercifully in thirukkaNNapuram, where swarms of beetles are humming the kAmara tune! Oh one who controls the dangerous bow called as SrI SArngam which will incite (anyone who holds it) to shoot arrows! Oh SrI rAma! My lullaby to you.

vyAkyAnam (Commentary)

thAmarai mEl ayan avanaip padaiththavanE – when queried if the role of creation [of the worlds] is brahmA’s as mentioned in the second pAsuram of this decad, AzhwAr says that emperumAn created even that brahmA on his divine lotus-like navel.

dhayaradhan than mAmadhalAy – Oh one who was born as the son of dhaSaratha chakravarthi, in order to remove the deficiency of dhaSaratha who was without an heir for sixty thousand years!

mythili than maNavALA – more than the pride of having sired brahmA and greater than the eminence of being the son of dhaSaratha chakravarthi, just as it has been mentioned in SrI rAmAyaNam AraNya kANdam 37-18 SlOkam “apramEyam hi thatthEjO yasya sA janakAthmajA l na thvam samarsththas thAm harthum rAmachApASrayam vanE ll” ([mArIcha tells rAvaNa when the latter seeks the former’s help in abducting sIthAp pirAtti from dhaNdakAraNya forest] that daughter of janaka [sIthAp pirAtti] belongs to that resplendence of SrI rAma which is inestimable. You are not capable of stealing that pirAtti, who has taken refuge under SrI rAma’s bow in the forest), oh one who has the pride of having sIthAp pirAtti, who is like the decorative ornament for the clan of women, to be born exclusively for you!

vaNdinangaL kAmarangaL isai pAdum kaNapuraththu en karumaNiyE – Oh one who has taken residence in thirukkaNNapuram where swarms of beetles hum the notes of kAmaram tune, and who is simplicity personified for me!

E maru vem silai valavA irAgavanE thAlElO – Oh Sri rAghava, who is controlling the bow SrI SArngam, which will incite anyone who holds it to shoot arrows! My lullaby to you.

We will next take up the 5th pAsuram of this decad.
