Full Series<\/a><\/p>\n << Previous<\/a><\/p>\n Brithyaihi priyahithaikargaihi prema purvam upasitham \/<\/span><\/i> (w to w)<\/span> Priyahithaikargaihi<\/span><\/i> – For the sake of Tiruvaradhana, arranging for collecting such things desired by acharya and things that benefit acharya as per the four religious order, <\/span>Brithyaihi<\/span><\/i> \u00a0– by disciples like Koil Annan, <\/span>prema purvam<\/span><\/i> \u00a0-with intense devotion, <\/span>upasitham<\/span><\/i> \u00a0– as stated earlier submitting the \u00a0things, which are lovable and delightful, that are needed to perform Tiruvaradhanam, <\/span>Tat prarthananusarena<\/span><\/i> \u00a0– to accept the desire of those disciples, <\/span>me<\/span><\/i> \u00a0– for me, who took asylum at Mamunigal\u2019s feet only yesterday, <\/span>samskaran<\/span><\/i> \u2013 five sanctifying ceremonies of \u00a0<\/span>tapa <\/span><\/i>, <\/span>pundram <\/span><\/i>(mark on the forehead),<\/span> namam <\/span><\/i>(naming), <\/span>mantram<\/span><\/i> (<\/span>Dvayam<\/span><\/i>), and <\/span>yagam<\/span><\/i> (sacrifice), <\/span>samvidhaya<\/span><\/i> \u00a0– done as stated in Sastra\u2026..<\/span><\/p>\n (Commentary)<\/span> As stated earlier, when Mamunigal was sitting close to the pillar in the <\/span>Sannidhi<\/span><\/i>, his disciples with intense devotion brought rice, cereals, fruit, milk, curd, vegetables etc. and placed before him for the performance of <\/span>Tiruvaradhanam<\/span><\/i>. He also accepted the same. <\/span>Parasara Samhita <\/span><\/i>says that a saint, with a view to develop the <\/span>dharmas<\/span><\/i> of vaishnavam, (i.e. five sanctifying ceremonies, preaching <\/span>Ubhaya Vedanta Rahasya Granthas<\/span><\/i>, insist disciples to practice as stated in those texts etc.) will accept to be a Chief of Mutt. Since Alagiya Manavala \u00a0ordered \u00a0Mamunigal also to be the Chief of the Mutt, Acharyas like Koil Kandadai Annan and other <\/span>Mahans<\/span><\/i> (great people) became his disciples. So it is appropriate for Mamunigal to accept those things that were brought by disciples for the sake of <\/span>Tiruvaradhanam <\/span><\/i>to Perumal where <\/span>Thadeeyaradhanam<\/span><\/i> \u00a0is underway.<\/span><\/p>\n It is said that those great disciples prayed to Mamunigal to do <\/span>pancha samskara<\/span><\/i> (five sanctifying ceremonies) to Erumbiappa who came only yesterday. Since those disciples are very much liked by Mamunigal, he accepted their request. This is stated in the second line of the <\/span>Sloka.<\/span><\/i> The Sastra orders that <\/span>Pancha samskara<\/span><\/i> to a disciple is to be done only on the condition that he meditates the Acharya for a year. \u00a0Though this is stated in the <\/span>Sastra<\/span><\/i>, Mamunigal doing this will not become a mistake. Since, the prayer of his close disciples is stronger than the Sastra. So <\/span>Pancha samskara<\/span><\/i> was done after <\/span>Tiruvaradhanam<\/span><\/i><\/a>. This is also in conformity with <\/span>Parasara\u2019s<\/span><\/i> saying i.e. Acharya, after \u00a0bath in the morning and performed <\/span>Tiruvaradhanam <\/span><\/i>as codified, invites the disciple, who completes bath and other rituals, winds a thread in his hand and performs the <\/span>Pancha samskara<\/span><\/i>. In this <\/span>Sloka<\/span><\/i>, the three <\/span>samskaras<\/span><\/i> i.e. <\/span>tapa<\/span><\/i> \u2013 adorning of Conch and Chakra on disciple’s shoulders, <\/span>pundram<\/span><\/i> \u2013 marking twelve <\/span>Tirumankappu<\/span><\/i> in twelve places of the body, <\/span>namam<\/span><\/i> – naming Ramanauja Dasa is shown.
