Full Series<\/a><\/p>\n << Previous<\/a><\/p>\n SlOkam 6<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Mrunalathanthu santhana samsthana dhavaladhvisha | Word to word meaning<\/strong><\/p>\n Commentary<\/strong><\/p>\n In this Sloka, he describes the sacred thread (yajnopaveeta<\/em>) adorned over\u00a0 the chest.\u00a0 Dattatreya says that the white sacred thread must be prepared with fresh cotton.\u00a0 Medhathiti, a learned commentator on Manusmriti, also says that saints must have teeth, jalapavitra<\/em> (water strainer) and sacred thread \u2013 all the three to be always maintained in\u00a0 pure white form. Maharishis say that the following are different names\u00a0 of sacred thread: upavitham<\/em> (Invested with the sacred thread), brahmasutra<\/em> (sacred thread worn over the shoulder), sutram<\/em> (thread), yajnopaveetham<\/em> (sacred thread) and devalakshyam<\/em> (brahmanical cord). \u2013 the singular word denotes that saint\u2019s sacred thread is a combination\u00a0 of three\u00a0 strings.
