In this pAsuram, he is divining about AchAryan\u2019s help <em>(upakAram)<\/em> that he did to us, starting with <strong>\u2018<em>AchAryan sey(dha) upakAram\u2019.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The big help of AchAryan who gave knowledge etc., and been giving protection \u2013 if this gets highlighted in individual minds, then mind of a disciple who is having gratitude would not be capable of living in a different place than the place of AchAryan.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>AchAryan sey(dha) upakAramAna <u>adhu<\/u><\/em><\/strong> \u2013 Since the great help that AchAryan did for this disciple to reach true goal cannot be paid back in any way, and is beyond words, it can only be referred to as \u2018<em>adhu\u2019 <\/em>(that)<em>. <\/em> If such great \u2018that\u2019 help is thought through in the mind &#8211;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>thUydhAga nenju thannil thOnRumEl \u2013<\/em><\/strong> Starting from giving knowledge, through getting the destiny of SrIvaikuNtam, the continued help that is nurtured;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>upakAramAnavadhu &#8211; <\/em><\/strong> As said in \u2018<em>AthmanOhyathi nIchasya yOgidhyEya padhArhathAm | krupayai vOpa karththAram AchAryam samsmarEth sadhA<\/em> [vyAyAnam of SrI vachana bhUshaNam &#8211; 324]\u2019 (even if of lower strata, one should meditate on the divine feet of AchAryan who shows the divine feet that is meditated on by the yOgis),<\/p>\n<p>and in \u2018<em>aththA nee seydhana adiyEn aRiyEnE<\/em> [<a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/thiruvaimozhi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">thiruvAimozhi<\/a> 2.3.2]\u2019 (Oh <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAn<\/a>, as mother, father etc., and as Acharyan I cannot finish talking about various help you have done for me),<\/p>\n<p>and in \u2018<em>ennaith theemanam keduththAy maruvith thozhum manamE thandhAy unakku en seygEn<\/em> [<a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/thiruvaimozhi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">thiruvAimozhi<\/a> 2.7.8]\u2019 (How can I return your favor of helping me by removing the badness in my mind such that I can break the cycle of births here),<\/p>\n<p>and so in these ways if one involves about the great help of AchAryan, if that gets highlighted in one\u2019s mind in pure thoughts; saying \u2018if\u2019 here shows the rarity of having such gratitude.<\/p>\n<p>While it is common to see those not having gratitude, those having gratitude are rare to find.<\/p>\n<p>In the material world that is like this, as said in \u2018<em>gurvarthasvAthmana: pumsa: kruthagyasya mahAthmana:<\/em> [<a href=\"http:\/\/ponnadi.blogspot.in\/2013\/06\/anthimopaya-nishtai-8.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">anthimOpAya nishtai \u2013 page 8<\/a>]\u2019 (one should always have gratitude and meditate upon the guru),<\/p>\n<p>it is only he (<a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/mamunigal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">maNavALa mAmunigaL<\/a>) who is there to follow this. He (<a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/mamunigal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">maNavALa mAmunigaL<\/a>) who is full of knowledge, his gratitude is like he has said in:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; \u2018<em>thEsam thigazhum thiruvAimozhip piLLai<\/em> [Arththi prabandham &#8211; 12]\u2019 (<a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/19\/thiruvaimozhi-pillai\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">thiruvAimozhip piLLai<\/a> whose greatness has spread in all places<em>)<br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8211; &#8216;vAsa malarth thAL adaindha vaththu <\/em>[Arththi prabandham &#8211; 57]\u2019 (vaththu -&gt; vasthu; <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/19\/thiruvaimozhi-pillai\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">thiruvAimozhip piLLai<\/a> considered me as a thing (whereas I am nothing) that reached his fragrant divine feet) , and<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; \u2018<em>thiruvAimozhip piLLAi theevinaiyOm thammaik kuruvAgi vandhu uyyak koNdu<\/em> [Arththi prabandham &#8211; 46]\u2019 (<a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/19\/thiruvaimozhi-pillai\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">thiruAimozhip piLLai<\/a> incarnated to accept us who are having rude minds, to get us reformed, to reach the true goal), and<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; \u2018<em>thirumalaiyAzhvAr thiruvAimozhip piLLai seer aruLAl, tharumadhi koNdavar thammai uththArakarAga eNNi, iru manamE<\/em> [Arththi prabandham &#8211; 21]<em>\u2019<\/em> (Oh mind! <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/19\/thiruvaimozhi-pillai\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">thiruvAimozhip piLLai<\/a> who is having the divine name of SrI SailESa, by his voluntary mercy bestowed knowledge in me &#8211; using that knowledge as the means think about him as the savior from this material world), and<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; \u2018<em>seerArum AchAriyanAlE anRO nAm uyndhadhu <\/em>[Arththi prabandham &#8211; 45]\u2019 (It is due to AchAryan that we realized our relationship with <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAn<\/a>, and that we get the true goal).<em> and<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8211; \u2018kUsAmal eppozhudum kURu<\/em> [Arththi prabandham &#8211; 45]<em>\u2019 <\/em>(say that (the aforementioned) about our AchAryan without shyness and pride).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/thiruvaimozhi-pillai.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-6786\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6786\" src=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/thiruvaimozhi-pillai.jpg\" alt=\"thiruvaimozhi-pillai\" width=\"384\" height=\"512\" srcset=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/thiruvaimozhi-pillai.jpg 384w, https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/thiruvaimozhi-pillai-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 384px) 100vw, 384px\" \/><\/a><em>thiruvAimozhip piLLai<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Now, He (<a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/mamunigal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">maNavALa mAmunigaL<\/a>) says that, in this way the mind of these people who have seen the help of AchAryan would not wish to stay in a place different from that of AchAryan.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>thEsAntharaththil irukka manam thAn porundha mAttAdhu<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 That is, the mind which expects to give something in return for the help received, would not be fit in a place different from that of AchAryan, for the reason of interest in things, interest in living in a place, etc.<\/p>\n<p>Even if they liked to be there somewhere else, their mind would not find it fit to stay in such places, as said in \u2018<em>ninnidaiyEn allEn enRu neengi<\/em> [<a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/thiruvaimozhi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">thiruvAimozhi<\/a> &#8211; 8.2.10]\u2019 (My mind leaves saying that I am not a part of you), it would leave them and be \u2018<em>mundhuRRa nenju <\/em>[periya thiruvanthAdhi &#8211; 1]\u2019 (Oh mind! which is more eager than me), such is the mind that sets to avoid being somewhere else as said in \u2018<em>pOndhadhu en nenju<\/em> [<a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2015\/07\/ramanusa-nurranthadhi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rAmAnusa nURRanthAdhi<\/a> &#8211; 100]\u2019 (my mind got fixed onto your divine feet).<\/p>\n<p>So, as said in \u2018<em>upakAra smruthiyAlE sahavAsam sidhdhikkum<\/em> [SrI vachana bhUshaNam &#8211; 325]\u2019 (due to the disciple&#8217;s thoughts of gratitude, AchAryan would get his company), the mind of those who stay together with him and stay under the sight of him (AchAryan), would not be able to tolerate the separation.<\/p>\n<p>Those having such mindset are those like <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/14\/nanjiyar-english\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">nanjeeyar<\/a>, dheivavAri ANdAn (look for his divine name in this link: <a href=\"https:\/\/guruparamparai.wordpress.com\/2012\/09\/01\/alavandhar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AlavandhAr<\/a>), et al.<\/p>\n<p>Now, when asked \u2018Why do you say that the mind would not tolerate separation? There are those who are staying separated (from AchAryan)\u2019, he (<a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/mamunigal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">maNavALa mAmunigaL<\/a>) says \u2013<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>iruththal ini EdhaRiyOm yAm <\/em><\/strong> &#8211; As said in \u2018<em>AchAryan paNNina upakAraththai anusandhiththu ilan Agil, gyAnAmsamadaiya maRaindhu agyAnAmsamE mElidum<\/em> \u2013 <em>\u0b86\u0b9a\u0bbe\u0bb0\u0bcd\u0baf\u0ba9\u0bcd \u0baa\u0ba3\u0bcd\u0ba3\u0bbf\u0ba9 \u0b89\u0baa\u0b95\u0bbe\u0bb0\u0ba4\u0bcd\u0ba4\u0bc8 \u0b85\u0ba8\u0bc1\u0bb8\u0ba8\u0bcd\u0ba4\u0bbf\u0ba4\u0bcd\u0ba4\u0bbf\u0bb2\u0ba9\u0bbe\u0b95\u0bbf\u0bb2\u0bcd, \u0b9c\u0bcd\u0b9e\u0bbe\u0ba8\u0bbe\u0bae\u0bcd\u0b9a\u0bae\u0b9f\u0bc8\u0baf \u0bae\u0bb1\u0bc8\u0ba8\u0bcd\u0ba4\u0bc1 \u0b85\u0b9c\u0bcd\u0b9e\u0bbe\u0ba8\u0bbe\u0bae\u0bcd\u0b9a\u0bae\u0bc7 \u0bae\u0bc7\u0bb2\u0bbf\u0b9f\u0bc1\u0bae\u0bcd<\/em>\u2019 (~ If one does not appreciate the help done by AchAryan, the characteristics of knowledge would fully vanish, and only ignorance would rise up),<\/p>\n<p>with such ingratitude which is \u2018<em>nishkruthi illAdha pApam<\/em>\u2019 (sin that does not have a requital \/ <em>parikAram<\/em>), without knowing that, being separated and being immersed in that state \u2013 don\u2019t know the reason for this. Only the minds of those who are separate from AchAryan would know the reason.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>ini EdhaRiyOm <\/em><\/strong> &#8211; After this is the state of the meanings, is there some who knows the reason (for the separation) and can tell us that. Since he (<a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/mamunigal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">maNavALa mAmunigaL<\/a>) is ignorant when it comes to knowing the mistakes of others, he is saying \u2018<strong><em>ini EdhaRiyOm\u2019<\/em><\/strong><em>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Without going according to the words of SAsthram &#8211; \u2018<em>nithyam gurumupAseetha<\/em>\u2019 (should meditate about guru every day), and without going according to the words of AchAryan \u2018<em>sadhAchAryan kaN vattam vittAl, nithya samsAriyAyE pOmiththanai<\/em>\u2019 (If stayed away from the sight of AchAryan, one would eternally stay in the cycle of being born in this material world) \u2013 such people\u2019s conduct is beyond comprehension of knowledgeable ones.<\/p>\n<p>Or,<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>yAm EdhaRiyOm <\/em><\/strong> &#8211; Having the conduct of being under the shadow of AchAryan, budding and blossoming of svarUpam \u2013 instead, having the heart of opposite conduct \u2013 do not know to find and tell you the reason for that. I do not \u2018know\u2019 that.<\/p>\n<p>So even for him (<a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/mamunigal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">maNavALa mAmunigaL<\/a>) who is full of all knowledge, this contradictory conduct is beyond knowing.<\/p>\n<p>vyAkyAtha <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2013\/04\/08\/pillai-lokam-jiyar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">piLLai lOkam jeeyar<\/a> says \u2018my AchAryan divined in his <em><a href=\"http:\/\/ponnadi.blogspot.in\/p\/anthimopaya-nishtai.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">anthimOpAya nishtai<\/a>, <\/em>the following aithihyam\u2019 :<\/p>\n<p>A SrivaishNavan, who had surrendered to the divine feet of <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/14\/nanjiyar-english\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">nanjeeyar<\/a>, was preparing to leave for some other place; a knowledgeable person hated that saying do you have to leave the divine feet of <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/14\/nanjiyar-english\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">nanjeeyar<\/a>. He responded and consoled, wherever I am, <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/14\/nanjiyar-english\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">nanjeeyar<\/a>\u2019s love would be there\u2019;<\/p>\n<p>a confidante sishyai (woman disciple) of <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/14\/nanjiyar-english\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">nanjeeyar<\/a> heard this and said to that person for not being anguished for going away, \u2018What did you say piLLAi (child)! Here you think about the story divined in the vyAkyAnam of \u2018<em>EnaththuruvAy ulagidandha UzhiyAn pAdham nALum maruvadhArkku uNdAmO vAn<\/em> [mudhal thiruvanthAdhi \u2013 91]<em>\u2019<\/em> (One who does not surrender to the divine feet of <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emperumAn<\/a> \u2013 would they get SrIvaikuNtam?)
