We will also go through the torments of those who consider the purushArtham (goal) to be attainable by their own efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">pAsuram<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Odhi nAmam kuLiththu uchchi thannAl oLi mAmalar<br>pAdham nALum paNivOm namakkE nalamAdhalin <br>Adhu thArAn enilum tharum anRiyum anbarAy <br>pOdhum mAdhE! thozhudhum avan mannu pullANiyE<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Word-by-Word meanings<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">mAdhE &#8211; Oh girl!<br>namakkE &#8211; for us<br>nalam Adhalil &#8211; if it gets the purushArtham (goal)<br>kuLiththu &#8211; (us) performing snAnam (bathing) <br>nAmam &#8211; (his) divine name<br>Odhi &#8211; recite<br>uchchi thannAl &#8211; with our head<br>oLi &#8211; shining<br>mA &#8211; best<br>malar pAdham &#8211; divine lotus feet<br>nALum &#8211; daily<br>paNivOm &#8211; will worship;<br>Adhu &#8211; any good result<br>thArAn enilum &#8211; even if (he) does not grant<br>tharum &#8211; (these pursuits) will grant<br>anRiyum &#8211; not just that<br>anbarAy &#8211; being devotees<br>pOdhum &#8211; we will be;<br>avan &#8211; that emperumAn<br>mannum &#8211; firmly residing<br>pullANiyE &#8211; dhivyadhESam named thiruppullANi only<br>thozhudhum &#8211; we will worship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Simple translation<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Oh girl (friend)! If it gets the purushArtham (goal) for us, we will perform snAnam, will recite his divine name and will worship by bowing our head at the shining, best divine lotus feet, on a daily basis. Even if he does not grant any good result to us, this pursuit [of other upAyams] will grant us; not stopping with that, we will become your devotees; we will only worship the dhivyadhESam named thiruppullANi where emperumAn is residing firmly <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Highlights from vyAkyAnam (Commentary)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Odhi nAmam<\/strong> &#8211; We will recite his divine names with our mouth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>kuLiththu &#8230; &#8211;<\/strong> It is said in <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2017\/06\/thiruvaimozhi-5-3-9-nanum-niraiyum\/\">thiruvAimozhi 5.3.9<\/a> &#8220;<em>Am kONaigaL seydhu<\/em>&#8221; (perform all possible troublesome acts). That is &#8211; when he comes in the opposite direction, instead of remaining as his beloved, we will worship him [like a seeker].<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>oLi mA malarp pAdham <\/strong>&#8211; When we see the enjoyability of the divine feet, we cannot worship them. That is &#8211; we will only have time to enjoy them and there is no time to understand the proper relationship and fall at the divine feet. Instead of treating the divine feet as the goal, we will consider them to be our means.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>nALum paNivOm <\/strong>&#8211; We will go through the torments of those who think that if the sAdhanam (means) breaks, the result will also become broken.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>namakkE &#8230; <\/strong>&#8211; Now, we will look out for our well-being only, instead of looking out for his well-being.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>namakkE nalam Adhalil <\/strong>&#8211; Previously, we will not worry about our loss and we will look out for his well-being only. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Adhu thArAn enilum tharum <\/strong>&#8211; Whatever said and done, he cannot be said as &#8220;He is not attainable by bhakthi&#8221;. Even if he had vowed &#8220;I will not give anything&#8221;, the statement &#8220;He is attainable through bhakthi&#8221; cannot be changed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>anRiyum anbarAy pOdhum <\/strong>&#8211; Instead of his being devoted towards us, now, we are becoming devoted towards him. If the benefit is for us, should we not have the apt means for the same?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>mAdhE avan mannu pullANiyE <\/strong>&#8211; Why should we let him remain in a place? Let us go there, to make him urgingly come towards us. Only if he considered that whatever she is doing is part of her nature, he can remain patiently. If he considered that she is doing these as sAdhanam (means to attain him), he cannot remain there peacefully.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>2nd explanation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>avathArikai (Introduction)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We thought we could attain him with the help of the bhakthi given by him [sAdhya bhakthi]. But that is not how it is mentioned in SAsthram. She is saying now &#8220;We are going to pursue him perfectly through the means such as bhakthi [yOgam] etc which are mentioned in SAsthram. We will attain him through these means&#8221;. She is saying &#8220;We were faithful that we will attain him through his acceptance. Since it did not materialise &#8211; we will pursue any of the upAyams which are shown in SAsthram&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Odhi nAmam <\/strong>&#8211; Even if he torments us, what is said in <a href=\"https:\/\/githa.koyil.org\/index.php\/9-14\/\">SrI bhagavath gIthA 9.14<\/a> &#8220;<em>sathatham kIrthayantha:<\/em>&#8221; (always being engaged in singing), will not be futile [it will yield the result].<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>kuLiththu <\/strong>&#8211; We lost the opportunity to attain him by his acceptance. Now, do we have to get him through our own efforts in pursuing the sAdhanams [upAyams]? To pursue such upAyams, one should have qualification for the same. For that, we will take bath. We will bow down with our heads which are well cared for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>oLi mA malarp pAdham <\/strong>&#8211; Instead of considering that the prApyam (goal) is our prApakam (means) as well, we will take responsibility of the prApakam; to do that, though bhagavAn&#8217;s divine feet have both states [being prApyam and prApakam], we will consider his divine feet to be enjoyable [as the goal] only.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>ini nALum paNivOm <\/strong>&#8211; Only when we are engaged in worldly life, these rules are present. On the days we are focussed on him, we will not have any loss. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">parakAla nAyaki&#8217;s friend asks her &#8220;Oh fool! Should you destroy bhagavAn who has many auspicious qualities in this manner, for delaying the result a little bit?&#8221; She responds,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>namakkE nalamAdhalil <\/strong>&#8211; Yes; all along we have looked up to him and did not get the result; going forward, let us lookout for our well-being only. Enough of remaining as said in SrI rAmAyaNam sundhara kANdam 39-30 \u2018<em>Saraisthu sankulAm kruthvA lankAm parabalArdhana<\/em>: l&nbsp;<em>mAm nayEdh yadhi kAkuthsthas&nbsp;<strong>thath thasya sadhruSam bhavEth<\/strong><\/em>&nbsp;ll\u2019 (If SrI rAmapirAn, who annihilates the strength of his enemies, bewilders lankA with his arrows and takes me with him, <strong>it will be apt for him<\/strong>)&nbsp;and succeeding [failing].<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Adhu thArAn enilum <\/strong>&#8211; Whatever he does, he cannot reject what is said in <a href=\"https:\/\/githa.koyil.org\/index.php\/11-54\/\">SrI bhagavath gIthA 11.54<\/a> &#8220;<em>bhakthyA thvananyayA Sakya<\/em>&#8221; (It is possible to truly (through SAsthram) know me, see me and attain me in this manner only by svayam prayOjana bhakthi (selfless exclusive bhakthi). He can only refuse to give himself to those who try to attain him through him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>anRiyum anbarAy <\/strong>&#8211; Let it be. This is our means to attain the goal. If he does not grant, so be it. If he destroys our svarUpam (true nature), we will see how he lives. This love [bhakthi] has both states &#8211; natural love, love to attain him. In that, matching this situation, the love is apt to be considered as the upAyam [means to attain him].<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Though parakAla nAyaki is urging her friend in this manner, she appears to be hesitating.
