He says that iruvar angam eriththAn refers to burning the physical forms of the monsters madhu and kaitabha. Did they not get burnt down, by the hot [poisonous] breath of thiruvananthAzhwAn [AdhiSEshan]? AchchAn piLLai would explain this as follows -Though sAmAnAdhikaraNyam does not apply here [since the two entities, SrI rAma and lakshmaNa are different], since lakshmaNa could be considered as having sAyujya with SrI rAma [both having equal enjoyment of specific auspicious qualities], and since lakshmaNa would act as per the wishes of SrI rAma only, the action of lakshmaNa could be considered as having been performed by SrI rAma himself. In the same manner, though it was AdhiSEshan, who had burnt down madhu and kaitabha, this could be attributed to emperumAn. thiruvAimozhip piLLai continues with the vyAkhyAnam now: Alternatively, the term iruvar could be considered as referring to chANUra and mushtika, the two wrestlers who were killed by krishNa. However, they were not burnt down, as mentioned in this pAsuram, but were thrown forcefully in the arena, like a plough made of bronze is thrown. It could be considered that they were burnt in the fire of their ego; or, if they had stepped back from fighting with krishNa, they would have been killed by the fire of kamsan’s anger. Or, when they saw krishNa approaching them after killing the massive, exulting elephant kuvalayApeedam, they got killed in the fire of their fear. It is pertinent here to recall periya thirumozhi 5.10.4 “eRiya avar vayiRu azhal ninRa perumAn” (when the demons came to fight with emperumAn, he closed his fist and punched them such that they died, with their stomachs burning). Just as it has been mentioned in nArAyaNOpanishadh “nabrahmA nESAna:” (before creation, when neither brahmA nor rudhra was present), before all these fires, kAlAgni [the fire of deluge] would have burnt them many times over.
