periyAzhwAr thirumozhi<\/a> >> Fourth Centum<\/a> >> Eighth decad<\/a><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n Previous<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n avathArikai<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n AzhwAr says in this pAsuram that SrIrangam is the divine abode, where emperumAn, who annihilated monsters who were torturing the world, resides.<\/p>\n\n\n\n kozhuppudaiya sengurudhi kozhiththu izhindhu kumizhththu eRiya<\/em> Word-by-Word Meanings<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n thada<\/em> \u2013 huge Simple Translation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n SrIrangam is the divine abode, where river kAviri uproots and pulls down sandalwood trees, which are such huge that one or two persons could not embrace it fully, pushing them towards periya perumAL, making sound as if saying \u201cYou should mercifully accept these\u201d, worshipping his divine feet. It is the permanent dwelling place for emperumAn, who destroyed monsters, who were troubling the people of the world and, whose blood, which is flourishing with fat, flows on the land, like a stream descending from a mountain, bubbling froth, rising up and making waves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n vyAkhyAnam<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n kozhuppudaiya sezhum kurudhi<\/strong> \u2013 when a pig, which enjoys eating, is fed nourishing food such that its flesh becomes fat and it roams around, it would look beautiful with its blood and fat. To reflect this, AzhwAr mercifully says kozhuppudaiya sengurudhi.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n thiruvAimozhip piLLai, in his svApadhESam, says that the monsters eat such that their flesh becomes fat; with that vanity, along with the strength of their boons and physical forms, they indulge in harming others. emperumAn pierces their physical forms, as mentioned in periya thirumozhi 11.4.4 \u201cpiLavu ezhavitta kuttam<\/em>\u201d (the stream of blood which came out when the physical form was pierced into two) such that blood flows on to the land, just like a river descending, rising up with bubbles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n kozhiththu izhindhu kumizhththu eRiya<\/strong> \u2013 when such blood comes on to the ground, like a river descending [from a mountain], it will flow on the land, rising up, with bubbles forming, looking like a river with waves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n pizhakkudaiya asurargaLai<\/strong> \u2013 monsters, who indulge in wrongful and unjust activities, roam around, harming the people in the world. This conveys the meaning that not all the monsters, who are born in the clan of monsters, would need to be destroyed. Only those, who indulge in harmful activities need to be destroyed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n piNam paduththa perumAn Ur<\/strong> \u2013 while dealing with such monsters, instead of removing a few limbs from them or leaving them half dead, emperumAn destroys them fully. SrIrangam is the divine abode, where such emperumAn resides.<\/p>\n\n\n\n thazhuppariya sandhanangaL thadavarai vAy IrththukkoNdu<\/strong> \u2013 sandalwood trees grow on huge mountains and grow large such that one or two persons cannot embrace them fully; river kAviri uproots these trees and pulls them along, as she flows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here that the sandalwood trees are large such that even two or four persons could not embrace them fully.<\/p>\n\n\n\n thezhippudaiya kAviri vandhu adi thozhum<\/strong> \u2013 kAviri river makes a sound, as she flows, as if saying [to emperumAn] \u201cYou should mercifully accept these [sandalwood trees]\u201d.
