periyAzhwAr thirumozhi<\/a> >> Fourth Centum<\/a> >> Fifth decad<\/a><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n Previous<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n avathArikai<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n AzhwAr says that those who recite the divine names of emperumAn will attain mOksham.<\/p>\n\n\n\n seeyinAl seRindhu ERiya puN mEl seRRal ERik kuzhambirundhu engum<\/em> Word-by-Word Meanings<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n seeyinAl<\/em> \u2013 with pus Simple Translation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n When one is in his final moments, flies will settle on top of wounds, which are full of pus. They will lay eggs on the wounds and the water, festering from those wounds, will flow. The flies will cause itching all over the physical form of the person, due to which, one would lose consciousness, being unable to tolerate the itching. Before reaching such a stage, if one were to recite \u201cnamO nArAyaNAya<\/em>\u201d with the mouth, cup the palms together in anjali<\/em> pose, over the head [worshipping emperumAn], even if nithyasUris [permanent dwellers of paramapadham] and mukthAthmAs [those who have been liberated from samsAram and have reached paramapadham] are made as guarantors, they will not allow the person, who has reached paramapadham, to return to earth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n vyAkhyAnam<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n seeyinAl seRindhu ERiya puN mEl<\/strong> \u2013 on top of wounds, pus will be formed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n seRRal ERi<\/strong> \u2013 flies will lay their eggs over the pus<\/p>\n\n\n\n kuzhambirundhu<\/strong> \u2013 that will make the wounds to fester and festered water will flow<\/p>\n\n\n\n eeyinAl arippuNdu mayangi<\/strong> \u2013 itching will be caused by the flies; unable to tolerate that itching, one will lose consciousness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n ellai vAychchenRu sErvadhan munnam<\/strong> \u2013 before attaining the final moments of one\u2019s life<\/p>\n\n\n\n vAyinAl namO nAraNA enRu<\/strong> \u2013 to realise the benefit of having been provided with a mouth. Saying \u201cI do not belong to myself, I belong to you\u201d is the benefit of having been provided with a mouth [when one says \u201cI do not belong to you<\/em>\u201d, it is the equivalent of \u201cnama<\/em>:\u201d and when one says \u201cI belong to you\u201d, it is the equivalent of saying \u201cnArAyaNAya<\/em>\u201d, with these two terms coming from the second and final words of thirumanthram].<\/p>\n\n\n\n maththagaththidaik kaigaLaik kUppi<\/strong> \u2013 realising the benefit of having been provided with a head<\/p>\n\n\n\n pOyinAl<\/strong> \u2013 if one does these [reciting namO nArAyaNAya<\/em> and worshipping emperumAn with the hands] and reaches mOksham, the benefit of these activities is to go through the path of archis<\/em> [the path of light, which leads one to SrI vaikuNtam]. If the person performs anjali<\/em> once [before his death], the benefit which he realises while going in the path of archis<\/em> will be, as mentioned in periya thirumozhi 3.7.8<\/a> \u201cmaRRellAm kai thozhap pOy<\/em>\u201d (to be worshipped by everyone else) and in thiruvAimozhi 10.9.3<\/a> \u201cthozhudhanar ulagargaL<\/em>\u201d (the residents of the higher worlds will join their palms together and perform anjali<\/em>) that wherever he sees, there will be forests of anjali<\/em>, performed by everyone on his way to SrI vaikuNtam. Even when he reaches SrI vaikuNtam, the benefit will be, as mentioned in mahAbhAratham Santhi parvam 344.45 \u201cbadhdhAnjali putAhrushtA<\/em>:\u201d (everyone will perform anjali<\/em>, saying \u201cnama<\/em>:\u201d joyously]. When the person surrenders the AthmA once [to emperumAn], those in SrI vaikuNtam will offer them thripAdhvibhUthi<\/em> [the spiritual realm, which is three times as large as samsAram], as mentioned in thiruvAimozhi 10.9.6<\/a> \u201cANmingaL vAnagam AzhiyAn thamar<\/em>\u201d (You, who are the servitor of emperumAn, should rule over this place). When one says nama<\/em>: once, the benefit will be to keep worshipping emperumAn, throughout the time, surrounding him, in SrI vaikuNtam, as mentioned thiruppallANdu 12<\/a> \u201cnamO nArAyaNAya enRu<\/em>\u201d (carrying out mangaLASAsanam to emperumAn, making him happy).<\/p>\n\n\n\n piNai kodukkilum pinnai iththisaikku enRum pOga ottArE<\/strong> \u2013 even if nithyasUris and mukthAthmAs were made as guarantors [for the person who has reached SrI vaikuNtam, to return to earth], they will not allow the person to return. The reason for that is that this place [samsAram] is such that it will make even one, who carries out servitude to emperumAn in SrI vaikuNtam, to become subservient to it. Also, emperumAn is one, who, after lifting a person up through a ladder, will remove the ladder [making it impossible for the person to return].
