In the earlier two thirumozhis<\/em> [divine verses, seen in decads 4.2 and 4.3], AzhwAr enjoyed the presence of emperumAn in thirumAlirum sOlai malai, manifesting the brilliance of his incarnations as SrI rAma and krishNa, through his auspicious qualities and divine activities. emperumAn is the initial step in prApyam<\/em> [carrying out kainkaryam]. The ultimate step in this is thirumalai AzhwAr [the divine mountain of thirumAlirum sOlai], in which AzhwAr engaged with his divine mind. He became joyful, describing the eminence of thirumalai AzhwAr, and enjoying that. More than the divine presence of emperumAn in the divine mountain, as mentioned in periya thirumozhi 2.3.8<\/a> \u201cpaLLiyil Odhi vandha than siRuvan<\/em>\u201d (prahlAdhAzhwAn, who returned from school, after his studies), when prahlAdhAzhwAn recited the divine names of emperumAn, his father, hiraNya kashyap, took umbrage at that and started harming prahlAdhAzhwAn in many ways. With overflowing affection towards prahlAdhAzhwAn, as the father without any cause, emperumAn took the divine form of two species, as mentioned in thiruvAimozhi 8.1.3<\/a> \u201caduththadhu Or uruvAy<\/em>\u201d (you are not coming today, with a matching form), annihilated the inimical entity of hiraNya kashyap, and protected prahlAdhAzhwAn. emperumAn mercifully manifested that divine form [of narasimha, with human torso and lion head], to AzhwAr, in thirukkOttiyUr. Having seen that divine form, just as he had mercifully sung in thiruppallANdu 11<\/a> in which he had explained his connection with his AchAryan selva nambi and in periyAzhwAr thirumozhi 1.1.1<\/a> \u201cvaNNa mAdangaL<\/em>\u201d [thirukkOttiyUr, which is surrounded by beautiful mansions], where krishNAvathAram took roots, and which AzhwAr mercifully sang about, AzhwAr\u2019s divine mind went towards thirukkOttiyUr. Having enjoyed the divine manner in which emperumAn mercifully resided there, due to the joy born out of that experience, AzhwAr found that while it was apt to praise that emperumAn, using all the three faculties of mind, speech and action, with the organs provided by emperumAn, people were severing their connections with such emperumAn and indulging in sinful deeds. AzhwAr, in this thirumozhi, reviles those who were behaving in this manner [not utilizing the sense-organs given by emperumAn in praising him] and praises those eminent entities, who were having overflowing affection towards emperumAn, who were having control over their internal and external senses, having affection towards their AchAryan and enjoying emperumAn, as mentioned in kaNNinuN chiRuththAmbu 3<\/a> \u201cthiri thandhAgilum<\/em>\u201d (even if I slipped from my firmness towards my AchAryan) knowing that this is the one, which AchAryan enjoys the most. thirumangai AzhwAr too, in his periya thirumozhi, after enjoying emperumAn in thirumAlirum sOlai malai [in the decad periya thirumozhi 9.9], enjoyed emperumAn residing mercifully in thirukkOttiyUr, in periya thirumozhi 9.10, as mentioned in \u201cengaL emmiRai emperumAn<\/em>\u201d (one, who is our distinguished lord and who is our benefactor). thirumangai AzhwAr, after mercifully describing emperumAn about the way in which he had taken residence in thirumAlirum sOlai malai, as in periya thirumadal 125 \u201cmannanai mAlirum sOlai maNALanai<\/em>\u201d (emperumAn, who has taken residence in thirumAlirum sOlai as the supreme lord and as the bridegroom), mercifully mentioned about the manner in which emperumAn had taken residence in thirukkOttiyUr as mentioned in periya thirumadal 125, 126 \u201ckonnavilum Azhip padiyAnaik kOttiyUr anna uruvin ariyai<\/em>\u201d (one, who has as his weapon, the divine disc, which is capable of annihilating enemies, and who resides in thirukkOttiyUr, as narasimha mUrthi, with a distinguished divine form). In the same manner, this AzhwAr [periyAzhwAr] too, after enjoying the divine manner in which emperumAn had taken residence in thirumAlirum sOlai malai, enjoys the divine manner in which emperumAn has taken residence in thirukkOttiyUr. It is only these two AzhwArs, who have mercifully sung full thirumozhi [divine verses in an entire decad], about the manner in which emperumAn has taken residence at thirukkOttiyUr.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

thiruvAimozhip piLLai, in his svApadhESam, says the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the earlier thirumozhi kadhir Ayiram<\/em>, in 4.1, AzhwAr mentioned about those who had control over their internal and external senses and who were keen on seeing emperumAn. He told them about those, who are mumukshus<\/em> [having desire to go to mOksham], and said that they are apt for them. In the subsequent two thirumozhis [4.2 and 4.3], AzhwAr meditated on thiruvananthAzhwAn [AdhiSEshan], who is apt for such mumukshus too, who is the head of nithyasUris [permanent dwellers in SrI vaikuNtam], and who keeps azhagar on his divine lap and protects him, as mentioned in mudhal thiruvandhAdhi 53<\/a> \u201csenRAl kudaiyAm<\/em>\u201d [AdhiSEshan carries out all servitudes to emperumAn, being emperumAn\u2019s umbrella when he walks etc]. AzhwAr meditated, in the previous thirumozhi [4.3] on that azhagar, who is a part of that divine mountain, just as madhurakavi AzhwAr had mercifully seen emperumAn, as mentioned in kaNNinuN chiRuththAmbu 3 \u201cthiri thandhAgilum<\/em>\u201d [even if I slipped from my firm engagement with nammAzhwAr, I will see the beautiful, divine form of emperumAn], since he was a part of the divine mountain, which AzhwAr was praising. In this thirumozhi, AzhwAr praises those SrIvaishNavas, who do not speak ill with their tongues, about emperumAn, who sustain themselves through dependence on AchAryan, engaging with their three faculties [of mind, speech and action], who carry out beneficial deeds for the sake of people of the world, and who have dharSan [looking at the divine form] of emperumAn since their AchAryans would desire that. He also reviles those who do not act in this manner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
