The activities of these goblins are similar to those of azhagar, viz. they cannot tolerate the unfavourable entities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">thiruvAimozhip piLLai, in his svApadhESam, says the following: In the previous pAsuram, the punishment given by azhagar to those who do not approach thirumAlirum sOlai malai, despite SrI mahAlakshmi being with him, as mentioned in pAsurams such as in <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2024\/09\/nachchiyar-thirumozhi-9-6\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"53955\">nAchchiyAr thirumozhi 9.6<\/a> \u201c<em>ERu thiruvudaiyAn<\/em>\u201d (one who has the eminent pirAtti on his divine chest) and in <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2024\/09\/nachchiyar-thirumozhi-9-3\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"53913\">nAchchiyAr thirumozhi 9.3<\/a> \u201c<em>thiru viLaiyAdu thiN thOL<\/em>\u201d (having strong, divine shoulders, the arena, where periya pirAtti plays), will necessarily happen as mentioned in <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2021\/11\/periya-thirumozhi-2-6-1-part-2\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"45222\">periya thirumozhi 2.6.1<\/a> \u201c<em>avuNaridaip pukku<\/em>\u201d (entering in disguise, amidst the <em>asuras<\/em>[monsters]) and in <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2021\/09\/periya-thirumozhi-2-4-1\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"44531\">periya thirumozhi 2.4.1<\/a> \u201c<em>enRAnum Iram ilAdhavan<\/em>\u201d (one, who does not have mercy towards <em>asuras<\/em> at any time). In this pAsuram, it is mentioned that even the SrIvaishNava goblins, who live in this mountain, unlike the kings who do not even approach the mountain, as mentioned in <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2024\/01\/thiruchchandha-viruththam-66\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"52646\">thiruchchandha viruththam 66<\/a> \u201c<em>senRu senRu dhEvarAy<\/em>\u201d (Why do people not go to paramapadham through the path of <em>archis<\/em> and not remain, like nithyasUris?) and in lagvathri smruthi SlOkam \u201c<em>janmAnthara sahasrEshu<\/em>\u201d (after observing the paths of deeds and knowledge during tens of thousands of births), will make those who are not recognising lowliness, multiplying bad deeds, not circumambulating the divine temple of emperumAn, not considering the divine words of AzhwAr, stealing from others whether they are aware or not aware, indulging in wrong ways with the limbs given by emperumAn, not observing activities which are to be carried out and those which are to be avoided, to observe the activities which are to be carried out and\u00a0 those which are to avoided by removing the limbs which aid them in their sins, and will please azhagar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>sindhap pudaiththuch chengurudhi koNdu bUdhangaL<\/em><br><em>andhip pali koduththu Avaththanam sey appan malai<\/em><br><em>indhira kObangaL emperumAn kanivAy oppAn<\/em><br><em>sindhum puRavil then thirumAlirum sOlaiyE<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Word-by-Word Meanings<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>indhira kObangaL<\/em> \u2013 cochineal insects<br><em>emperumAn<\/em> \u2013 azhagar, who is the lord of all<br><em>kani<\/em> \u2013 like <em>kovvaikkani<\/em> [a reddish fruit, like a berry]<br><em>vAy<\/em> \u2013 for the divine lips<br><em>oppAn<\/em> \u2013 to be a match<br><em>sindhum<\/em> \u2013 in all the places, spreading out and flying<br><em>puRavil<\/em> \u2013 having slopes<br><em>then<\/em> \u2013 beautiful thirumAlirum sOlai<br><em>bUdhangaL<\/em> \u2013 SrIvaishNava goblins, who reside there (if they see those who take proper care of their physical forms [viz. those who look for worldly pursuits and not emperumAn]<br><em>sindha<\/em> \u2013 such that limbs break into smithereens<br><em>pudaiththu<\/em> \u2013 hurt them and kill them<br><em>sem kurudhi koNdu<\/em> \u2013 with the reddish coloured blood coming out of their physical forms<br><em>andhi<\/em> \u2013 during dusk<br><em>bali koduththu<\/em> \u2013 proffering worship<br><em>Avaththu dhanam<\/em> \u2013 considering that as the wealth during times of danger for them<br><em>sey<\/em> \u2013 worshipping<br><em>appan<\/em> \u2013 where the lord resides<br><em>malai<\/em> \u2013 it is the divine mountain<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Simple Translation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The SrIvaishNava goblins, living on thirumAlirum sOlai, will hurt those entities who nurture their physical forms, instead of desiring emperumAn, kill them, take their blood and offer it to emperumAn during their worship at the time of dusk. This is the divine mountain where the lord resides. Cochineal insects, matching the divine lips of emperumAn, which are reddish like <em>kovvaippazham<\/em>, will spread throughout and fly in the beautiful thirumAlirum sOlai, which has slopes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>vyAkhyAnam (Commentary)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>sindhap pudaiththu<\/strong> \u2013 hitting in such a way that they scatter. If the SrIvaishNava goblins see those who have firm faith in emperumAn, who have the ability to discern between that which is to be accepted and which is to be rejected, have affection towards azhagar and towards thirumalai, they will not come in their proximity, and hide themselves. If they see unfavourable entities, who do not have faith in azhagar, who do not have the knowledge to discern between that which is to be accepted and to be rejected, who nurture their physical forms well, and who roam as they please, they will hit their limbs and kill them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here that if the unfavourable entities come out during the time when the goblins are outside, the goblins will beat them such that those entities will bleed from their noses and mouths; they will kill them, take the blood and the corpse and proffer, like ghaNtAkarNan did, saying \u201cYou should accept this and shower your mercy\u201d. Since they reside in that mountain, during the time of dusk, they will proffer as their evening offering, at the time of their worship and say, just as it has been mentioned in <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2024\/09\/nachchiyar-thirumozhi-9-7\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"53957\">nAchchiyAr thirumozhi 9.7<\/a> \u201c<em>pinnum ALum seyvan<\/em>\u201d (I will carry out all types of servitude, beyond this too) and will offer more too. Alternatively, as a wealth for their times of danger, they will proffer these to azhagar himself. Then, this offering will appear to be a <em>sAdhanam<\/em> [means to achieve a result]. Will they get to search out and kill such inappropriate entities? [appropriate or apt entities are those who will not look for auspicious time to go and worship perumAL or to carry out kainkaryam to him (for example, as part of temple festivities). Inappropriate or inapt entities are those who look for auspicious time in order to go to the temple and worship perumAL]. When apt entities come out to worship emperumAn, these goblins will not even look at them. When inapt entities come, looking for auspicious time, emperumAn himself will move out [not wishing to give dharSan to them]. When emperumAn is told that it is dusk time, and that he should remain inside the temple itself for carrying out <em>kAppu<\/em> [protective measures to prevent evil eyes from looking at him], emperumAn\u2019s <em>sankalpa pArathanthryam<\/em> [being dependent on his followers, as per his will] will make him to come and give dharSan to his followers. When the king has appointed a few persons for guarding his private quarters, and if someone tries to intrude and attack the guards, the king will be happy if his guards kill the intruder. These goblins will not show themselves to the followers of emperumAn who, on account of carrying out servitude, come at odd times to the temple. If the followers are brave and do not mind if the goblins come in their path, the goblins will test them out. If they determine that the follower is a genuine one, they will not go behind them. If they find that they are not genuine followers, they will kill them. <em>appan malai<\/em> \u2013 it is the divine mountain, where the one, who gave us our forms and senses, resides forever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>sem kurudhi koNdu<\/strong> \u2013 taking the reddish coloured blood coming from the forms of those who they had beaten to death<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>bUdhangaL<\/strong> \u2013 even though they have taken the form of goblins, they will have the divine names of SrIvaishNavas as well as their form, having devotion towards emperumAn and his followers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>andhip pali koduththu<\/strong> \u2013 just like ghantAkarNan [a goblin], who offered a corpse to emperumAn, saying, as in harivamSam \u201c<em>navam Savam idham puNyam<\/em>\u201d (this is a fresh corpse of a brAhmaNa who has not slipped from the path of virtue), they will offer that blood during dusk time, when they worship emperumAn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Avaththanam sey<\/strong> \u2013 they will treat this [offering] as a wealth for them to fall back on, when they are in danger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>appan malai<\/strong> \u2013 this is the divine mountain, where he, who is the causative factor for all, resides. The term <em>appan<\/em> manifests that he is the causative factor for these goblins too, and that they could approach and live on the divine mountain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>indhira kObangaL<\/strong> \u2013 Having a reddish colour, having the name of <em>indhirakObam<\/em> [cochineal insects].<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here that the cochineal insects, matching the divine lips of emperumAn with their reddish colour, will spread throughout the mountain, making it appear as if the orchards in the mountain have blossomed all over.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>emperumAn kanivAy oppAn<\/strong> \u2013 looking like the divine lips of azhagar, who is the lord of all, and whose lips have the complexion of <em>kovvaippazham<\/em> [a type of berry].<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>sindhum puRavil<\/strong> \u2013 going to the boundary of flying in all the places. AzhwAr\u2019s divine daughter too had mercifully said, in <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2024\/09\/nachchiyar-thirumozhi-9-1\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"53909\">nAchchiyAr thirumozhi 9.1<\/a> \u201c<em>sindhurach chembodip pOl thirumAlirum sOlai engum indhira kObangaLE ezhundhum paRandhittana <\/em>\u201d (Reddish cochineal insects, like vermillion powder, have risen up and spread out, covering all the places).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>then thirumAlirum sOlaiyE<\/strong> \u2013 it is the divine thirumAlirum sOlai, which is beautiful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here that it is the beautiful thirumAlirum sOlai which is like this, surrounded by orchards. This is the place where, those who look for auspicious time, lose their limbs [to the goblins] and as a result [of losing their limbs], live without indulging in sinful deeds. It is the place where those, who remove the limbs [goblins] reside. It is also the place where those, who do not look at the time, but engage in servitude to emperumAn, reside.
