I have donned my daughter with ornaments for her forehead, golden studs for her ears and anklets for her ankles. I nurtured her, the way she liked. I kept her on my waist and roamed around. However, she refuses to be with me, who had brought her up affectionately like this. She has gone on to the street, seen by everyone, shouting \u201cOh, one who has the complexion of a blue water-lily!\u201d She is completely infatuated [with krishNa]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>vyAkhyAnam (Commentary)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>pattam \u2026<\/strong> &#8211; I had donned her with ornament, apt for her forehead, golden studs for her ears and anklets, for her ankles. These are representative of all the ornaments which I had adorned her with.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here: <em>pattam<\/em> \u2013 decoration for the head; <em>thOdu<\/em> \u2013 ornament for the ears; <em>pAdagam<\/em> and <em>silambu<\/em> \u2013 those which are applied on the ankles. These are representative of all the other ornaments. I had nurtured her, without any shortcoming in any of these and had brought her up, the way she desired. Even though she did not have any affection towards me, considering that I am affectionate towards her, even if her heart had gone out to someone else, she could have stayed near me. We do not see even that. Even if she did not do that, she could have spent time with her friends. Even if she avoided doing that, she could have stayed in her place, awaiting his arrival. Instead of doing even that, when she went searching for him, she could have given up whatever had to be given up in the manner specified, by analysing and deciding [as mentioned in <a href=\"https:\/\/githa.koyil.org\/index.php\/18-66\/\">bhagavadh gIthA 18.66<\/a> \u201c<em>sarva dharmAn parithyajya..<\/em>\u201d]. She did not do that; she did not consider giving up what had been proscribed and what had been looked down upon. She even felt ashamed of the manner in which I had nurtured her. Should she go like this, suddenly, as if giving up harmful entities?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ittamAga \u2026<\/strong> &#8211; instead of controlling her and nurturing her, I nurtured her the way she desired. I did not even allow her to walk, but carried her on my waist and roamed everywhere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ivaL ennOdu irukkal uRAL<\/strong> \u2013 She, who had been brought up in such an affectionate way by me, could have thought \u201cDid she not nurture me like this!\u201d and could have been obedient to me. Even if she had not been like that, she could have stayed with me, even if her heart had gone out towards someone else, so that I could have felt happy, enjoying her presence. She did not do that, either.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>pottap pOy \u2026<\/strong> &#8211; Without any of these, suddenly she left me. She went on to the street, having been seen by everyone around. Instead of keeping quiet, appropriate to her qualities of femininity, she called out \u201c<em>pUvaip pU vaNNA<\/em>\u201d (Oh, one with the complexion of a blue water lily), expressing her desire to enjoy the beauty of his divine form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here that the mother is wondering whether anyone, while leaving suddenly, will engage with the beauty of the form of the person with whom one is intending to engage with, and call out \u201c<em>pUvaip pU vaNNA<\/em>!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>vatta vAr kuzhal mangaimIr<\/strong> \u2013 Oh, girls, who have curly and long hairs, and who are young, on account of your age! Are you people not obedient towards your respective mother? Should she [my daughter] too not be like that? Instead of doing that \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here that the mother says that the daughter is not staying with her, who is her controller; she is infatuated with him, who is not desirous of being with her. If he were desirous of being with her, the mother says that she would have stayed alone, as her righteous duty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He says at the end that the pAsuram narrates the following: While the AchAryan decorates the disciple with all the ornaments [here, the word ornament refers to providing knowledge etc] and carries out that which is good for the disciple in a way that the disciple likes, the disciple avoids being under the control of the AchAryan and wishes to engage with emperumAn directly.
