Looking at this crowd, young girls said joyfully \u201cIs it an assembly of clouds coming on land?\u201d They went near windows, holding on to them, looking at krishNa. They were entering, going head-over heels, standing, out of fear of elders et al, losing out their hearts to the way in which krishNa was going. They even forgot to eat their food.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>vyAkhyAnam (Commentary)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>thazhai \u2026<\/strong> &#8211; thazhai, thongal are different types pf umbrellas made with peacock feathers. dhivAkaran lexicon classifies these umbrellas as <em>thazhai, thongal, sApAlam, pichcham, kuLiri. <\/em>Though all these are types of peacock umbrellas, since there are differences in their forms, they are called as <em>thazhai, thongal<\/em> etc. Since the verse says <em>thazhaigaL<\/em> in the plural number, it is evident that <em>thongal<\/em> too are many.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>thiruvAimozhip piLLai says, in his svApadhESam, that <em>thazhai<\/em> refers to umbrella, <em>thongal<\/em> refers to umbrella made of peacock feathers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>thadhumbi engum<\/strong> \u2013 filled up everywhere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>thaNNumai<\/strong> \u2013 a distinguished type of auspicious musical instrument. <em>ekkam<\/em> \u2013 instrument with a single string. <em>maththaLi<\/em> \u2013 another type of drum. Alternatively, <em>ekkammaththaLi <\/em>could be considered as a single instrument, referring to a type of drum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here that <em>thaNNUmai<\/em> is a small drum tied to the waist and played. <em>ekkam<\/em> refers to a drum with the skin on only one side. <em>maththaLi<\/em> refers to a drum which makes loud noise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>thAzh peeli<\/strong> \u2013 a type of wind instrument [like a trumpet], decorated with peacock feathers. The peacock feathers could be either on top or below the instrument.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>kuzhalgaLum<\/strong> \u2013 different types of flute, made with leaf or bamboo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>gIdhamum<\/strong> \u2013 singing songs, apt for the herd-clan<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here that apart from singing, they were also dancing. Alternatively, <em>thazhai<\/em> would refer to tender leaves supported with sticks. Also, decorated with peacock feathers. <em>thongal<\/em> \u2013 garland atop umbrella. Garland made of leaves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Agi engum<\/strong> \u2013 wherever one looked, only these could be seen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>gOvindhan varuginRa kUttam kaNdu<\/strong> \u2013 krishNa has coronated himself as protector of cattle. Looking at the crowd of krishNa coming along with a thousand children, who are just like him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here that <em>gOvindhan<\/em> refers to one who protects cattle; it also refers to one who has cattle. One who is capable of stealing the eyes and hearts of beholders, instead of letting the senses to go after worldly pursuits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>mazhai koLo varuginRadhu enRu solli mangamAr<\/strong> \u2013 young girls, joyously ask \u201cIs it an assembly of clouds walking on land?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here that the girls were saying joyously \u201cHow amazing is this!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>sAlaga vAsal paRRi<\/strong> \u2013 approaching windows<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>nuzhaivanar niRpanar Agi<\/strong> \u2013 due to infatuation with krishNa, they are hitting against one another. Due to hurdles such as the window, or fear of elder relatives in the room or their own pride of being a woman, they stand, without going further.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>engum uLLam vittu<\/strong> \u2013 losing their hearts behind the path in which krishNa went<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>UN maRandhu ozhindhanar<\/strong> \u2013 They forgot their food. Don\u2019t they need their hearts to think of food? However, their hearts have followed krishNa. How could those, without hearts, think of food? Hence, instead of saying <em>maRandhanar<\/em> [forgot], the verse says <em>maRandhu ozhindhanar<\/em> [they have completely forgotten about the entity called as food].<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here \u2013 Could they recall that they have eaten in the past, if they do not have their hearts? For those who have eaten now, is it possible to eat? [looking at kaNNan itself is equivalent to eating.
