Come here\u201d, krishNa went to someone else\u2019s house and carried out mischiefs such as eating all the <em>apUpam<\/em> [types of tasty dishes in round form] which the people in that house had cooked for themselves. The lady of that house comes to yaSOdhAp pirAtti and complains to her to call krishNa to her. This pAsuram mentions this narrative<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>kannal ilattuvaththOdu sIdai kAreLLin uNdai kalaththil ittu<\/em><br><em>ennagam enRU nAn vaiththup pOndhEn ivan pukku avaRRaip peRuththip pOndhAn<\/em><br><em>pinnum agam pukku uRiyai nOkkip piRangu oLi veNNeyum sOdhikkinRAn<\/em><br><em>un magan thannai asOdhai nangAy<\/em>! <em>kUvik koLLAy ivaiyum silavE<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Word-by-Word Meanings<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>asOdhai nangAy<\/em>! \u2013 Oh, yaSOdhAp pirAtti, who is complete in all auspicious qualities!<br><em>kannal<\/em> \u2013 mixed with jaggery concentrate<br><em>ilattuvaththOdu<\/em> \u2013 along with laddu<br><em>sIdai<\/em> \u2013 sIdai too [a type of foodstuff, in spherical form]<br><em>kAr eLLin uNdai<\/em> \u2013 spheres of black sesame sweet<br><em>kalaththil<\/em> \u2013 in containers<br><em>ittu<\/em> \u2013 keeping them<br><em>ennagam enRu<\/em> \u2013 thinking \u201cThis is my house. None will enter\u201d<br><em>nAn pOndhEn<\/em> \u2013 I came out<br>(In the meantime)<br><em>ivan<\/em> \u2013 this boy<br><em>pukku<\/em> \u2013 entered [my house]<br><em>avaRRai<\/em> \u2013 all those eatables<br><em>peRuththi<\/em> \u2013 making it appear that I had got (this is said in the contrarian manner. In other words, without leaving anything for me, he stole the entire lot)<br><em>pOndhAn<\/em> \u2013 he has come<br><em>pinnum<\/em> \u2013 yet again<br><em>agam pukku<\/em> \u2013 entering the house<br><em>uRiyai nOkki<\/em> \u2013 looking at <em>uRi<\/em> [a holder for vessels, suspended from the ceiling, through a network of ropes]<br><em>piRangu oLi<\/em> \u2013 being very fresh<br><em>veNNeyum<\/em> \u2013 is cow\u2019s butter available?<br><em>sOdhikkinRAn<\/em> \u2013 he is checking<br>(I am unable to tolerate such mischiefs)<br><em>un magan thannai<\/em> \u2013 your son<br><em>kUvik koLLAy<\/em> \u2013 call out<br><em>ivaiyum<\/em> \u2013 the manner of allowing him to indulge in mischiefs<br><em>silavE<\/em> \u2013 is this a way of nurturing a child?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Simple Translation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Oh, yaSOdhAp pirAtti, who is complete with all the auspicious qualities! I had prepared spheres of jaggery concentrate with <em>laddu<\/em>, <em>sIdai<\/em> and black sesame. Keeping them safely inside containers appropriate for each of those dishes, I left my house, thinking \u201cIt is my house; none will enter this place [and steal them]\u201d This krishNa entered my house as soon as I left, ate them all up, leaving nothing behind, making it appear as if I had eaten them all. He left the place, re-entered the house and looked at the <em>uRi<\/em> to see if any freshly made cow\u2019s butter is available too. I am unable to put up with such mischiefs. Please call out to your son. Is this the way to bring up a child?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>vyAkhyAnam (Commentary)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>kannal \u2026<\/strong> &#8211; <em>kannal<\/em> \u2013 jaggery block. This is mixed with the three materials mentioned further. Food stuff made with jaggery will be tastier than mere jaggery block.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>thiruvAimozhip piLLai says, in his vyAkhyAnam, that <em>ilattuvam<\/em> refers to appam [a sweet dish made with jaggery and rice flour].<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ilatutuvaththOdu sIdai kAr eLLin uNdai<\/strong> \u2013 <em>ilattu<\/em> \u2013 a special preparation of <em>apUpam<\/em> [round shaped object]. Along with it, [jaggery mixed] <em>sIdai<\/em> and [jaggery mixed] black <em>sesame<\/em> spheres<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>kalaththil ittu<\/strong> \u2013 storing them in vessels appropriate for each of these food stuffs<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ennagam enRu nAn vaiththup pOndhEn<\/strong> \u2013 thinking \u201cThis is my house; none will enter here\u201d, I went out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ivan pukku avaRRaip peRuththip pOndhAn<\/strong> \u2013 The moment that I left the house, he [krishNa] entered the house and ate them all, leaving them for me. She is saying this in contrarian manner, viz. he didn\u2019t leave anything behind for me to eat, and ate them all himself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here that the term <em>peRuththi<\/em> conveys the meaning that krishNa ate up all the dishes and considered that his eating the dishes is a favour to me. He considered them as living beings and ate them, considering that to grant them great life, uplifting me in the process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>pinnum agam pukku uRiyai nOkki<\/strong> \u2013 not being contented with those, he entered the house again, looking at the <em>uRi.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>piRngoLi veNNeyum sOdhikkinRAn<\/strong> \u2013 He is checking to see if freshly made butter too would be available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>un magan \u2026<\/strong> &#8211; Oh, yaSOdhAp pirAtti! Call out to your son such that he would not indulge in any mischief there and comes to you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ivaiyum silavE<\/strong> \u2013 Is allowing a child to carry out mischiefs, a way of bringing up the child? Alternatively, it could be considered that when the lady [who had come to complain] told yaSOdhAp pirAtti \u201cOh, yaSOdhAp pirAtti! You are complete in all auspicious qualities. You call him out to your side so that he too would become complete in all auspicious qualities\u201d, yaSOdhAp pirAtti responded to her saying \u201cYou are crying about the fulness of my auspicious qualities and the faults of krishNa. Little children will open the doors of houses, enter them, and eat whatever they could lay their hands on. Are your children fully under your control?\u201d She turned away from that lady, in anger.
