A lady came to yaSOdhAp pirAtti and complained to her. This pAsuram describes this narrative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>thiruvAimozhip piLLai, in his svApadhESam, says that it is customary in the clan of herd-people to observe fast on the day of <em>SravaNam<\/em> star. A lady comes to yaSOdhAp pirAtti, mentions the preparations which she had made for the ceremony, krishNa\u2019s mischiefs at her house and tells yaSOdhAp pirAtti to control her son.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>sennel arisi siRu paruppuch cheydha akkAram naRu ney pAlAl<\/em><br><em>panniraNdu thiruvONam attEn paNdum ippiLLai parisu aRivan<\/em><br><em>innam ugappan nAn enRu solli ellAm vizhingittup pOndhu ninRAn<\/em><br><em>un magan thannai asOdhai nangAy<\/em>! <em>kUvik koLLAy ivaiyum silavE<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Word-by-Word Meanings<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>asOdhai nangAy<\/em> \u2013 oh, yaSOdhAp pirAtti, who is complete with auspicious qualities!<br><em>sem nel arisi<\/em> \u2013 reddish paddy and rice<br><em>siRu paruppu<\/em> \u2013 small, green gram<br><em>seydha<\/em> \u2013 made, by concentrating, without any fault<br><em>akkAram<\/em> \u2013 jaggery<br><em>naRu ney<\/em> \u2013 fragrant ghee<br><em>pAlAl<\/em> \u2013 with milk, all these<br><em>paththu iraNdu thiruvONam<\/em> \u2013 twelve <em>thiruvONam<\/em> [days of <em>SravaNam<\/em> star]<br><em>attEn<\/em> \u2013 I had prepared, <em>pAyasam<\/em> [combination of rice, jaggery, green gram and milk] and <em>apUpam<\/em> [round objects made with rice and green gram, along with jaggery] as part of <em>nOnbu<\/em> [ceremony]<br><em>paNdum<\/em> \u2013 earlier too<br><em>i piLLai<\/em> \u2013 this boy\u2019s<br><em>parisu<\/em> \u2013 nature<br><em>aRivan<\/em> \u2013 I knew<br><em>ellAm<\/em> \u2013 all the food cooked for the <em>thiruvONa vratham<\/em> (fasting observed on the day of <em>SravaNam<\/em> star)<br><em>vizhungittu<\/em> \u2013 after swallowing them, without leaving anything behind<br>(being unsatiated with all that)<br><em>innam<\/em> \u2013 \u201cfurther<br><em>nAn ugappan<\/em> \u2013 I desire\u201d<br><em>enRu solli<\/em> \u2013 saying this<br><em>pOndhu ninRAn<\/em> \u2013 leaving that place, he stood innocently<br>(Hence)<br><em>un magan thannai<\/em> \u2013 your son<br><em>kUvik koLLAy<\/em> \u2013 call him out<br><em>ivaiyum<\/em>&#8211; leaving the child to engage with mischief<br><em>silavE<\/em> \u2013 is this the way to bring up a child? (thus complain the women in the village)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Simple Translation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Oh, yaSOdhAp pirAtti, who is complete with auspicious qualities! Along with reddish paddy and rice, green gram, jaggery, fragrant ghee and milk, I had prepared dishes such as <em>pAyasam<\/em> and <em>apUpam<\/em> for observing <em>SravaNa vratham<\/em>, for the last twelve months. I knew the quality of this boy, earlier too. He swallowed all the food stuff which I had prepared for the <em>vratham<\/em>, without leaving behind anything and says \u201cI would like to eat more\u201d. He had left our place, as if he had nothing to do with whatever had happened. Call your son to your side. Is this a way of bringing up a child, allowing him to engage in carrying out mischiefs?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>vyAkhyAnam (Commentary)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>sennel \u2026<\/strong> &#8211; reddish, pure rice, grown from fertile, hard soil; green gram which has been obtained from crops grown on similar soil; jaggery obtained after heating sugar cane extract, without any fault; milk from cows heated to one fourth of original measure, setting resultant milk to curd, churning the resultant curd and obtaining ghee, milk obtained from healthy cows; with all these \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>panniraNdu thiruvONam attEn<\/strong> \u2013 I had been preparing <em>pAyasam<\/em> and <em>apUpam<\/em> (appam) during for the last twelve <em>thiruvONam<\/em> (<em>SravaNam<\/em> star).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>thiruvAimozhip piLLai says further here that krishNa would not wait for the <em>vratham<\/em> to be completed and take the food stuff offered. He would eat even before it is offered to deities. <em>parisu<\/em> refers to offering desired materials apt for one\u2019s form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>paNdum ippiLLai parisu aRivan<\/strong> \u2013 I knew the nature of this child [krishNa] earlier too. In other words, even as I prepared the food stuff for <em>SravNa vratham<\/em>, this boy would start his mischiefs and eat up the food stuff even before offering the prepared food to deities. This time too, he has done the same mischief.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ellAm vizhingittu<\/strong> \u2013 gathering all the food stuff, prepared for this <em>thiruvONam vratham,<\/em> and swallowing them, without leaving anything behind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>innam ugappan nAn enRu solli<\/strong> \u2013 not being satiated even after eating all the food stuff, during this<em> thiruvONam vratham<\/em>, he said that he would desire to have some more food<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>pOndhu ninRAn<\/strong> \u2013 he left that place and came here, as if he had nothing to do with whatever had happened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>un magan thannai asOdhai nangAy kUvik koLLAy<\/strong> \u2013 Oh, yaSOdhAp pirAtti! Call your son to your vicinity such that he would not be able to indulge in any mischief there<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ivaiyum silavE<\/strong> \u2013 Shouldn\u2019t one, who had given birth to a child, bring up the child in a protective way such that he would not indulge in mischiefs? Is this the way that one would bring up a child?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>thiruvAimozhip piLLai says here that when the lady complained to yaSOdhAp pirAtti about krishNa, he became furious and told yaSOdhAp pirAtti \u201cThey are telling only lies about me\u201d. yaSOdhAp pirAtti, believing his words, asked the lady who complained \u201cShould I believe your words? Or, should I believe his words?\u201d The lady told her \u201cIt is not only that he had carried out mischiefs.
